If You Don’t Have Something Nice to Say, Say It on Bachelor Pad: Episode 4

There’s nothing quite as insulting as when your own boyfriend doesn’t think you’re marriage material. The direct bashing that went on during the competition on last night’s Bachelor Pad was pretty spectacular. Where else can you openly declare once and for all which person has the worst boob job? It got pretty nasty, but let’s face it – this is what they all signed up for. The writers certainly crafted these questions with specific people in mind. Blame it on them. It was a mean game but they all agreed to play it. I loved that Tenley was super pumped but pretended to have mixed feelings after she basically told Gwen she was a moron and won the competition as a result.
I have to say, I was completely flabbergasted (is that how you spell it?) that Kovacs went to comfort Elizabeth after the insult competition. He admitted to really caring about her. He never used the “L” word, but basically he said that he needs to tell Elizabeth how beautiful she is, and fed her lines that every woman needs to hear after being told that they are mean and ugly (“They’re just jealous, Honey.”). That’s love. So now after Elizabeth basically threatened him into being her boyfriend, he has actually admitted that he’s into her too. I have no idea how this works, but good for them.

Watching Tenley and the Kipper together was both a relief and extremely irritating. Does Tenley’s voice really sound like that? Can she not go a few octaves lower? Does Kiptyn find all of her makeup and baby talk attractive? Her screams on the zip line were out of control. She looked like a koala ready to pounce on Kiptyn at the first indication that he was interested. Thank goodness he seems to be. They are both petite people with morals. Tenley still thinks she’s in a Disney movie and it was a relief to see she has not lost her Ariel the Mermaid spunk since getting rejected by Jake. The best part of their date was when Kiptyn tried to tell her that when they get back into the house, he is going to ignore her. She didn’t really like that.

The Peyton / Jesse date started off well, but then I guess hanging out in an airplane hangar with nothing to do but mix vodka with champagne can result in belching and non-romantic like behavior. Good for Peyton on being able to recognize that the eye candy of Jesse is not so attractive when he tries to pick her nose. She really handled herself well considering that most of the girls would have run to the fantasy suite with this guy regardless if he was belching in their faces or peeing on the floor. She may have been the first bachelorette in history who rejected the fantasy suite because she actually was not interested in the guy. Peyton is by far the coolest girl in the house. Once she said that her favorite food was funnel cake and beer, I started to really like her.

The rest of the episode was pretty uninteresting. The testosterone levels between Wes and Dave were heated, but who really cares? I loved that Wes was trying to manipulate Nikki’s vote by sweet talking her under a bunk bed. Good for Kiptyn, once again, for sticking to his morals and not giving a blanket veto to Gwen simply because his friends wanted to. He actually sought her out to see where her head was at. This did not bode well for Krisily, who not only was deceived by Dave, but made a very dramatic speech upon exiting that the couples would win it all if people didn’t get rid of them. Angry is an understatement for her. At least now she can begin her career as a bump-it spokeswoman.

The most interesting part of the whole 2 hour show (which could have easily been condensed into 45 minutes) was that they announced the Dancing With the Stars cast! For the first time, I actually knew all of the women. I almost jumped off the couch when I saw Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing will be on! Nobody puts Baby in a corner! There, I said it. Couldn’t resist. If you are interesting in reliving one of the greatest movies of all time, check this out: http://www.dirtydancingfestival.com/. I carried a watermelon?! Baby is 50 now, and hopefully can keep up with the likes of Bristol Palin (what on earth is she doing on this show??!) and Audrina Patridge (does she have the brain capacity to learn intense dances in such a short timespan?). Good to see Carol Brady will compete and I’m sure Brandi will be great. As for the guys – I’m looking forward to seeing how The Situation does. And maybe Knight Rider, but the rest are not as interesting as the unique assortment of ladies.

That’s all for now. Next week’s Bachelor Pad looks dramatic as they are cutting down numbers faster. This is both good and bad. Good because it means this show will be over quicker, but bad because do we really want to see a finale with Nikki, Gwen and Dave? No thanks. Anyhow, enjoy this last week of summer. ‘Til next time.

The Bachelor Pad Heals All Wounds: Week 3 Commentary

If there are two questions that we will never have about this week’s Bachelor Pad, it’s the following:

(1) Does Gia have a boyfriend?

(2) Would Natalie make out with every guy in the house for 20 bucks?

The answer to these questions must have been considered vital, because they were repeated 5-6 times in the previews and before each commercial break.  Gia doesn’t act like she has a boyfriend and we already know Natalie will do anything for attention, so this wasn’t really news.

This week’s show was slightly more interesting than the previous week for the following reasons:

  • The kissing contest was absolutely vile.  Watching all the spit swapping actually made me a little nauseous, but maybe it was the hummus I was eating.
  • Peyton, who honestly never stood out before, is a likeable, down to earth, Southern delight.  I loved that she was so into the race car driving date.  If I had given up my life to be on Bachelor Pad and my date consisted of race car driving versus a private jet to Vegas, I would have been pissed.  She was thrilled! Even more interesting is that this past weekend, Chris Lambton and Chris Harrison tweeted that they were meeting up with Jesse and Peyton in North Carolina for a golf charity event.  Earlier in the week, I thought it was kind of random that both Peyton would meet up with this gang, but after last night’s episode, it’s pretty evident that there is still something going with between Peyton and Jesse.  Good for them! It’s nice to know that after dumping Natalie in the Bachelor Pad, it only takes a couple of days to find new love.
  • Dave’s date in Vegas looked fun.  Natalie’s antics of trying to win the “most super enthusiastic, ready to get down and naked at the drop of a hat” award worked. I seriously think she was trying to redeem herself from the awful Bachelor date she had on Jason’s season.  Remember? Jason took Natalie on a one on one date to Vegas and asked her what kinds of things she likes.  Her response: “I like bears.”  Jason refused to give her a rose, and she went home that night.  After such an embarrassing exit like that, she would be willing to do anything to erase that memory.  Saying that having Nikki on the date was like having your grandmother around, was the best line of the episode.  So now Natalie is in a secret relationship with Dave and once again, we see how the Bachelor Pad is the equivalent to heartache as The Fountain of Youth is to aging.  Wasn’t it just last episode that she was in tears over getting dumped by Jesse?  Wow, talk about Fantasy Suites healing all wounds.  That was a quick recovery.  It was also a relief to see that Dave did not hold a shred of remorse over Jessie’s departure last week.  As Jessie’s limo pulled away, she said she may have found love.  Clearly Dave was not on the same page.
  • I kind of liked the crash and burn of Tenley sneaking into Kiptyn’s bed and wanting to snuggle with him, only to get rejected.  It was like he kicked a cat.  But come on, Tenley, if the group is up all night drinking and strategizing and there’s no sleep, waking a guy from a deep sleep is not going to get you what you want.  I thought it was for sure over between them.  But Kiptyn’s little speech to Peyton about being open to other relationships and downplaying any sort of relationship with Tenley was pure genius.  I totally believed him.  If I didn’t hear his little side camera shot that this was all part of his strategy, I never would have guessed there was anything still brewing between the two of them.
  • Melissa Rycroft has gotta go.  What on earth was she wearing at the rose ceremony??  She serves absolutely no purpose except to be a Bachelor Barbie doll.  Chris Harrison could more than effectively host this mindless show.
  • Krisily’s bump-it deserves its own strategy.  Why she chooses this as her look of choice is baffling.  Speaking of baffling, did anybody else notice the amount of earrings in individual clear pockets that were hanging next to Gia’s bed?  There were easily over 100 pairs.  Absurd.
  • As for the Wes and Gia connection, I just can’t understand it.  Is there something romantic about a guy who takes a song he wrote for someone else and uses it to woo another?  Does she not know that he sang this song for Jillian?  If she knew, would she care?  And even if she didn’t know, do the words of the song really have the power to make her cry?  I am hoping it was just the alcohol that made her blurt out the things she did about Wes.  The fact that she cried when they announced the kissing contest was pathetic.  I can understand being opposed to it, but why the tears?  And if you’re going to compete, compete!  Did she think her little peck kisses were going to get the job done?  Nope.  Then she drops out mid way through which is equally absurd.  And yet a few hours later, she’s snuggling with Wes.  I don’t get her.  I also thought she was totally ridiculous about Nikki’s last minute change in decision regarding Kiptyn.  How dare she lecture Nikki when Gia herself went back on her word regarding giving Craig M the rose?!
  • Another observation: how come the individuals who win the contests each week end up getting voted off the following week?  Example: Jesse and Craig M had immunity the first week. Both were voted off last week.  Last week, Gia and Weatherman won immunity. This week: they are voted off.   It seems like winning the contests is a curse.

Still not a fan of Kovacs.  I think he’s way too arrogant and full of himself. He deserves Elizabeth nanny. It’s fun to watch her confuse him.

We haven’t seen much from Gwen and Ashley.  Maybe the key is staying under the radar.

So that’s all I really care to say about this week’s show.  The Husband, by the way, has completely quit watching.  He’d rather watch pre season football than Bachelor Pad – imagine that?   I had to run into the bedroom in between commercials to tell him what was going on.  He almost doesn’t care – that’s how downhill this show is getting!  This week was definitely better than last week’s show, and I hope it continues to get more interesting.  Less strategy, more strange combinations of people hooking up!  Til next week…

Chris Lambton May Actually Decline Bachelor :(

So the fact that we haven't head any news regarding Chris's decision to be the next Bachelor can only mean one thing: the guy is probably leaning towards turning it down.  The only thing weighing in favor of him deciding to be the next Bachelor is that he is currently in Raleigh with Chris Harrison and Jesse (from Ali's season) doing some golfing??  Peyton from Bachelor Pad was there as well. Maybe Chris H will be convincing him to do the show.  Regardless, Chris L will certainly have no problem meeting ladies in the future and his popularity alone should present some unique opportunities that he wouldn't have had before Ali's season.

That said, if they don't Chris to be the next Bachelor, they better pick someone good.  I'm not sure that any of the other guys from Ali's season would be as interesting to watch.

Anyhow, hope you all had a great weekend.  I need new running shoes.  Any recommendations?

Are You an Insider or an Outsider?

After running through Central Park last night at dusk, an alluring idea when I started out on the run, I quickly came to realize that I should have checked the weather.  About ¾ of the way through, the skies opened up and poured on me as my headphones were blasting Michael Jackson’s Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.  This entire experience reminds me of Bachelor Pad.  In theory, it has the potential to be an interesting show.  Take all of the drama ridden characters from previous seasons, throw them in bikinis, make them all sleep together in one room and watch the fireworks start.  In reality, it’s an unexpected, unwelcomed drama fest about nothing.  Do I really care that Craig M was promised a rose on Gia’s date, but she ditched him for the “modern day Shakespeare” Wes?  Do I really need to see Krisily’s bump it during the rose ceremony as a statement that she’s modern and in it to win it?  And has Melissa Rycroft become the Vanna White of Bachelor Pad?

For some unexplainable reason, my digital recorder failed me last night.  Getting out of the shower, heating up the leftover Chinese food from the previous night, I was all set to curl up on the couch and watch Bachelor Pad’s nonsense unfold for week 2.  The Husband was off watching pre-season football with his buddies and after picking out my clothes for work, packing up my lunch, etc., I was all set.  Then I turn on the TV to find that to my horror, I had missed the first 40 minutes.  I was watching the very tail end of the Weatherman’s date.  It looks like Gia and Weatherman won whatever competition they had this week, making them safe from elimination this week.  Each got to choose three contestants to go on dates with and out of those three, one would receive a rose, making that person safe from elimination as well.  But somewhere along the way, and this is what I missed, the remaining contestants divided themselves into “insiders” and “outsiders.”  From what I could gather, the “insiders” are like the cool kids in high school. The cheerleaders and football studs.  The “outsiders” are like the mathletes in Mean Girls.  They’re really smart and down to earth, but less attractive overall (Gia is the exception) than the insiders.

With this thrilling division that took place, the remainder of the show revolved around strategy.  Who should the outsider mathletes vote off for the guys?  Their target was Kiptyn, but it backfired because Nikki likes the guy, and has morals.  Gia takes Craig M on her date, promises that he will get the rose, but then ends up giving it to Wes.  She is lured by Wes’s country charm and despite having a boyfriend it seems like Gia may go wandering in the upcoming episodes.  By the way, the highlight of the show was the preview for next week when Wes plays the same cheesy country song on his guitar for Gia that he played for Jillian on her season.  Did Gia not see Jillian’s season?  Doesn’t she know that Wes is a slimeball?  The guy is competing for $250,000, he is not interested in you, Gia!  Also, I was really annoyed that Gia was so upset with Nikki for going against the group and not voting Kiptyn out when Gia didn’t stick to the plan of keeping Craig M around.

The worst part is that I am getting sucked into this horrible web of manipulation and scandal.  I am still trying to figure out why Gia is so appealing to the guys.  I find her whiny.  Jesse dumped Natalie for a chance of flirting with Gia.  Kovacs has a stage 5 clinger in Elizabeth, former Nanny, former brunette.  It is scary watching them together because I really feel like he had no choice but to shower with her.  Especially since last week she cried like a lunatic and declared her love for him, when he so clearly indicated he wasn’t interested.  Now he’s back playing the game, convincing her that he suddenly had a change of heart. I don’t buy it.

Jessie thinks she found love in bug eyed Dave, despite getting voted off.  I’m thinking there’s about a 1% chance of this working out and less chance than that he will remain faithful.  Other than that, what’s going on with Tenley and Kiptyn?  Is something going on? I think I missed the part where they got together.  I’m still confused as to why she started crying when Elizabeth mentioned Tenley’s relationship with Kiptyn.  Tenley needs a hug and tons of dance therapy.  She’s two for two in crying on this show.  She may be the MVP (Most Vulnerable Person) in the history of Bachelor history.
That’s really all that’s worth mentioning this week.  It was actually a painfully, uninteresting episode.  Who cares about which group will vote which person off?  The draw of the Bachelor/Bachelorette is the possibility of finding true love, the fantasy dates and watching the competition of the Bachelor/Bachelorette heat up.  It ain’t gonna happen on Bachelor Pad.  Especially, when the two dates this week were with (1) Weatherman, who nobody is interested in and (2) Gia – the girl with a boyfriend.

The best thing that could happen on this show is if Chris L shows up and challenges Wes and Kovacs to an oil wrestling fight while Tenley performs an interpretative dance on the sidelines.  ‘Til that happens, Bachelor Pad is turning into one big yawn fest.

Insiders, Outsiders, Schmucks and Idiots

I missed the first 40 minutes of tonight's Bachelor Pad (damn you, DVR!) - and yet somehow, I don't think I missed much.  My "modified Bachelor Pad post" will be up tomorrow.  This means I just can't justify taking the time it normally takes to blog about Bach/Bachelorette and put that time into Bachelor Pad.  Instead, I'll post a shorter version of my normal weekly posts noting some of my most pressing questions about this idiotic spin-off, that should hopefully be quashed as soon as possible.  If there was anything remotely entertaining on at the same time, this show would tank.  Fortunately for ABC, this is not the case.

As for tonight's show, what I'm not clear on is whether it was Chris Harrison or ABC that designated the remaining men and women as "Outsiders" or "Insiders" or whether that's what this pathetic bunch deemed themselves.  Either way, I felt myself getting dumber by the second listening to them scheme and strategize.

On a side note, I continued on to watch "Dating in the Dark" which is the ABC show that comes on after Bachelor Pad.  I must say - it was far more interesting than B-Pad.  A completely ridiculous concept, three girls date three guys, but only in the dark. At the end of the show (which they stretch out for a whole hour), they do a reveal and try to make it dramatic.  If there is a match, they go off in a limo together - which I guess is the complete opposite of the end of the Bachelor.  The best part of tonight's show was that an international super model couldn't show off her assets to lure in the men.  Nobody chooses her.

More annoying than Tenley's tears, Nikki's tears and Krisily's bump it during the rose ceremony are those stupid Old Navy commercials plugging skin tight jeans that show off one's tush.

On a bright note, Chris L has revealed that he got his awesome red and blue plaid shirt we saw him wear on the show at J Crew.  Guess who did some online shopping for The Husband at www.jcrew.com this weekend?  :)  No, I'm not kidding.

'Til tomorrow!

There's Something About Mary...

Oops she did it again!! Poor Mary Delgado was arrested for the THIRD time for DUI.  Mary was recently dumped by Byron the Fisherman, former Bachelor.  She looks so sad in this picture.

It's really too bad, because it was refreshing to see that perhaps if the couple was a little bit older (30s or 40s somethings, as opposed to 20s somethings), perhaps they stood a better chance of making it in the real world.  This would have been a WONDERFUL reason to add a Silver Edition to The Bachelor series, featuring some more mature candidates (Chris's dad??) as Bachelors, however, I guess Mary and Byron's age did not give them better odds.

DeAnna Pappas Engaged - to Stagliano Brother!

Ok, so you may have heard the news by now that DeAnna Pappas, former Bachelorette and hostess of the show Get Married, announced her engagement to Stephen Stagliano.  Stephen is the identical twin brother of Michael Stagliano who was a beloved contestant on Jillian's season.  Here's the crazy part: DeAnna was engaged to Jesse Csinzcak, but they broke up.  Jesse went on to date Holly Durst, former contestant on English Grant's season of the Bachelor.  So I guess after Jesse and Holly parted ways, DeAnna befriended Holly and now the two are best friends. Shortly thereafter, Holly started dating Michael Stagliano and then the two of them introduced DeAnna to Mike's brother.  This is a little too close to comfort for me.

Here's the other odd part: they claim they are planning a double wedding.  Why on earth a bride would want to share her wedding day, I have no idea.  But this interview of the 4some was beyond scary.  Rumor has it, they may be getting their own show (OMG, please no).  If you watch this video, they are not only dressed the same in every shot, but are arguing over who is having babies first.  I have to say, I liked DeAnna during her season, but I'm a little worried about what she's going to be like planning a wedding.  I hope she doesn't scare off Stephen - who seems a bit on the quiet side during this video.  The creepiness is a little high in this video.  I couldn't make this stuff up:

Chris L is on Twitter!!

Happy to say that you can now contact Chris L (and tell him you want him as your next Bachelor) - @ChrisLambton13.  Go get him!

Bachelor Pad: More Like Reject Pad

I think I actually lost brain cells last night watching the season premiere of Bachelor Pad. Simply because there was really nothing else of interest on last night, we got sucked into the two hours of cheap bikini shots, toned abs and absurd tears. In case you were doing something intellectual last night, Bachelor Pad takes all of the most hated villains and crazy lunatic ladies from previous seasons of The Bachelor/The Bachelorette and puts them back in that Malibu mansion to complete for $250,000 and a second chance of finding love. What we saw last night was a cross between survivor alliances, a Sports Illustrated bikini shoot and soft core porn (I give credit to that last observation to my friend Amie, a Harvard Law School graduate). Why are we sucked into watching such trash?

Perhaps it was Tenley’s reaction every time a new member of the Bachelor Pad entered the house. She was the welcoming committee. We were happy to see that she’s made a full recovery since getting dumped by Jake, but I was seriously frightened for her life (why do I care?) when crazy Michelle confronted her in the bathroom, cursing and threatening tiny Tenley’s safety because Tenley started a rumor that Michelle hooked up with dangerous Craig M and his hair. Yes, this is junior high on crack. Worse than evil Michelle was the conniving Nanny Elizabeth who came back blonde (horrible decision) and declared her love for Jesse Kovacks, from Jillian’s season. Elizabeth gives new meaning to the expression “Bi-Polar Hot.” I was never a Kovacks fan, particularly because I didn’t like the way he reacted to getting dumped by Jillian. I thought he was really full of himself back on that season and now can understand why he gets along with David and Wes. Regardless, it was pretty fun to watch him squirm like a prisoner in Shawshank when Nanny Elizabeth gave him no choice but to make out with her. This is total fatal attraction.

Craig M fooled everybody by winning the Twister competition. How come they didn’t tell us whether Michelle and Craig M really did hook up? They MUST have night vision cameras in that bunker of theirs. That would have been great outtake material. I liked Craig M’s choices for the date (Gwen over Gia? Really?) and watching Bi-Polar Hot Elizabeth blink her baby blue eyelids (does anyone else think she looks like Renee from the last season of 24?) at Craig while demanding that he win her over, was kind of amusing. It’s fun to watch Craig M struggle. I grew just a little bit of respect for him that (a) he followed through on his promise to take Jessie on the date and (b) that he gave Jessie the rose over Elizabeth who he thinks he could have had a moment with.

Poor Gwen looked like these people’s den mother. They actually put ?? as her age, which makes her ancient for the Bachelor series. Perhaps they can set her up with Chris L’s dad. If she’s from the second season, she must be at least in her 40s by now and why on earth she’d have any interest in hanging out with a bunch of 28 year olds, I have no idea. What is up with blonde Natalie having a personality? They made her seem like such a ditz on Jason’s (I love bears) season. Now she’s this outspoken, flirtatious man eater and she’s got her hooks into Ali’s season Jesse. Good for them. I also liked how Natalie announced within the first 7 minutes of the show that Juan slept with Nikki for her Chicago based apartment while in town. Adios, Juan.

What did Melissa Rycroft do to herself? Besides darkening her hair, losing 15 pounds and perhaps getting some botox?? Did you notice they didn’t actually show any close-ups of her face? She looked like a brunette Barbie doll. I wonder if Chris was annoyed about having a co-host. What does he need her for? It’s almost as confusing as why Gia would come on the show with a boyfriend. Like that’s going to last.

The Twister competition was completely ridiculous. We saw more crotch shots, cleavage and buttocks than was necessary. The Husband thinks that Jessie has a deal with the producers to be featured on this show. We haven’t seen much by way of her personality, but if she can keep her nose out of getting into people’s scandals and just focus on wearing bikinis around the house all day, she may do well in this competition. Kiptyn was the only normal guy in the house, which is why we didn’t see him do anything last night.

Overall, though, what bugged me the most about this show is that the people chosen for Bachelor Pad are the leftovers. They are the ones who in most cases did not even make it to the final 2 or 3 choices.  All of the men, except for maybe Weatherman and Kiptyn, showed serious issues on their seasons of the Bachelorette.  Wes was a womanizer.  David was a caveman.  Craig M was so cruel to Weatherman.  Are these people we actually want to see more of?  I, for one, am over them.  Now if they brought back previous Bachelors and Bachelorettes whose relationships did not work out (Jillian and Ed, Andy Baldwin, Travis Stork, Brad Womack, Grant, Bob Guiney, Charlie and Sarah) - at least we could watch the people who earned their place to be either The Bachelor and the final lady standing or The Bachelorette and the final guy standing.

I think that’s the only brain power I care to spend discussing Bachelor Pad this week. Did you like the show? Will you continue to watch? Can Chris L PLEASE agree to be the next Bachelor so we have something look forward to once this disaster of a show is over?

On Blogging Bachelor Pad

I'll do it, but can't promise lengthy, thoughtful submissions. Because really, there was nothing thoughtful about last night's show.  Blog post will be up tonight.

Does anyone else have Natalie's "Weatherman" song stuck in their head today?

Giving Bachelor Pad 1 Shot

I'll watch it once. But if it's anything like I think it's going to be, can't promise to blog about it.  On a different note, I still want Chris L to be the next Bachelor.  Or his dad.  Either one would be fine with me.

Interview: Chris Still Thinking About Being Next Bachelor, Ali and Roberto are In Love!

Earlier this week, I had the awesome experience of speaking to the people that I have been watching and blogging about all season.  On a telephone interview of reporters, Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez answered questions for close to 45 minutes.  They were followed by a separate telephone interview with Chris Lambert.  Generally speaking, Ali and Roberto seemed completely in love and happy with each other.  They are definitely in the honeymoon phase.  The crazy part is that Ali sounded exactly like she sounds on TV - happy, giggly, friendly and using expressions like, "We had this great connection from the beginning..."  It was strange because I felt like I was listening to a radio program of the show, except that when I actually spoke to Ali and Roberto, they responded to me.  How odd!  Even more exciting was speaking to the greatest bachelor of all time - Chris L.  He seemed sad to me still and admitted that the finale was difficult to watch.  It sounds like Chris has definitely been offered the opportunity to be the next Bachelor (though not officially confirmed by ABC), but shockingly - he has not accepted yet.  Could this guy actually be wary of revealing his personal life even more?  Good for him on actually giving it some thought!  I will list for you the questions I asked these three people and their responses, then quote for you some of the more interesting points from the interview:

For Ali and Roberto (my questions):

Operator:    Your next question comes from Stacey B from tvbr.com.

Stacey B:    Hi, Roberto and Ali.

Ali Fedotowsky:    Hello.

Roberto Martinez:    Howdy

Stacey B:    You guys made me cry last night.  It was just so amazing. [They laughed] My question is what is something that each of you learned about each other that you didn’t know already just from the show?  Something that you've learned since the finale.

Roberto Martinez:    I think for me, not that I didn’t know it but Ali's so supportive and so – I mean, watching the show and everything, it has it's great moments but it also has kind of difficult moments for me, just having to watch her relationships with all the other guys.  So, it's just kind of solidifying that she's just a great person.  She's supportive and she's more than I could ever hope for.

Ali Fedotowsky:    And I guess, I'm dwelling on the sort of same lines is, you know, one thing that, you know – I'm sorry, choking right now.

Roberto Martinez:    Are you OK?

Ali Fedotowsky:    So sorry.  I was eating oatmeal because we didn’t have breakfast, you know, I got it caught in my pipe, it was the wrong one.  Sorry. [Poor girl - she really started choking here!  I was about to ask her if she had dry throat!]

But I think it's that kind, genuine, sort of romantic in Roberto, there's always sort of that little bit of wonder.  I wanted to see if he'd dance with me in the street,  and what I've just been so grateful to learn about him is that he is like that at home.  You know, when we have these little secret, hideaway spots together, he would dance with me in the kitchen and he does tell me, he said in his proposal I want you to know, every morning knowing you're so, so loved.  He does.  He tells me that.  It's unbelievable, the man he is and I think just knowing that transferred over into our lives outside of The Bachelorette, it's such a great thing and – I appreciate him so much.

Stacey B:    Thank you.  I love you, guys.  Congratulations.

Ali Fedotowsky:    Thank you so much.

Roberto Martinez:    I'm a lucky man.

Stacey B:    Yes. [They laughed at this]

Ok, and here is my talk with Chris L:

Operator:    Your next question comes from Stacey B from tvbr.com.

Stacey B:    Chris, hi.  How are you?

Chris Lambton:    I'm very well, thank you.  Yourself?

Stacey B:    I'm good.  I just want you to know, just speaking on behalf of all women who have watched the show which is probably in the millions, you are so loved and hearing you talk about being sad about the results of the show, I think makes us sad because, you're every woman's son, friend, brother, you're like the dream guy.  You're a new American hero and I just want you to know that if you decide to be the next Bachelor, I think you'll have a cult following.  I think it'd be the best Bachelor they ever had and it makes me sad to hear you sad because I just think you're one of the greatest guys.  I'm married, my husband was scared watching me watch you on the show. [He is cracking up during this part.  The other reporters had asked such serious questions with him responding in a very straight forward way, so I thought it was important to state the obvious - this guy is a dreamboat and everybody loves him!!]

I mean, I got like thousands of E-mails, text messages, I have my own blog and people were just writing in: all ages – single, married, grandparents – and it sounds like you're not even cognizant of how much you're adored. I just wanted to ask you, are you aware of how popular you are, how loved you are?

Chris Lambton:    You know, I get a lot of letters in the mail and people will stop by and like, yesterday, someone put a rose in my front porch with a note that said if Ali doesn’t give you her rose, will you accept mine?

It's like things like that but it's still – I can't fathom it.  I can't wrap my head around it because, you know, it's amazing.  It really is.  Yesterday, I went down to the beach after work at like 4 o'clock and next with my brother and my dad and the next thing I know, there were literally 50 people around me taking pictures and, you know, they want to give me a hug and (want to know if I) will take a picture with their little kid.

You know, it's really hard to grasp.  It's amazing but, I love that its love coming towards me, you know?

Stacey B:    Yes.

Chris Lambton:    It's surreal.  I can't even describe it to tell you the truth.

Stacey B:    All right.  Well, when you wake up in a couple of weeks and,  you reconsider (being the next Bachelor), I just want you to know that we really enjoyed, getting to know you as far as you can get to know somebody by watching them on television and wish you all the best.  Have no doubt that it not working out with Ali is ultimately a great thing because now you can go out and find your dream girl.

Chris Lambton:    I can't wait to find that dream girl.

Stacey B:    You will. Good luck.

Chris Lambton:    Thank you very much.

Later on, I asked him another question...

Operator:    Your next question comes from Stacey B from tvbr.com.

Stacey B:    Hi, Chris.  It's your number one fan again.  Sorry.

Chris Lambton:    How are you?

Stacey B:    I'm all right.  So, for all those women out there who are hanging on your every word, what is it that you're looking for in your perfect mate?  What are the qualities you're going to seek out in your next relationship?

Chris Lambton:    See, the funny thing is I don't think I look for a certain qualities or that.  I just think it's based on like chemistry.  When you meet a girl, it should just be like an instantaneous click. You see her and you're like, "Yes, I'm going to spend the rest of my life with this girl."  You know, I would do anything to be with her, I would love her till the day she dies.  So, I think it's just the chemistry.  It's just something that just will, punch you in the side of the head and I'll just think, "Yes, this is the one."

Stacey B:    And I hope that you're hopeful it's still out there.  Are you?

Chris Lambton:    Definitely.  Definitely.  You know, this show did not make me a skeptic of love.  It just made me realize that I need to keep looking and love is out there for me.  I just need to find it.

Stacey B:    Yes, it is.  Thanks, Chris.

Chris Lambton:    My pleasure.

Such a gentleman, that Chris!! Ok, and some other interesting tidbits from the interview:

  • Ali's dress on the finale was by Alberto Makali and Roberto had on a Hugo Boss suit.  Ali's ring was worth $50,000, was diamonds and platinum by Neil Lane.  It's 3.03 karat and has an asscher cut center diamond with 184 brilliant cut diamonds in a handmade setting.
  • Ali knew it was Roberto for sure during their last date in Bora Bora.  She had so much fun on the jet skis, on their picnic and kissing in the rain that she knew she couldn't focus on Chris anymore.
  • Roberto told his parents as soon as he got home - he couldn't keep the secret.  Ali waited a bit to tell hers because she thought they wouldn't be able to keep the secret.
  • Roberto has no interest in returning to baseball.  He's focused on starting his insurance agency in San Diego.  It sounds like Ali has some people advising her on her next move. One of the reasons they chose San Diego is because it's far enough away from the LA scene that they won't have the paparazzi following them around, but it's close enough that she can take a Hollywood type job to stay busy as Roberto will be busy starting up his business. She definitely will not be returning to Facebook.
  • Ali and Roberto intend to make their relationship the priority.  They are really in love and they are happy.
  • Ali, Roberto and Chris (separately) all noted that Ty, Kirk and Craig R would make great Bachelors (Ali noted that this was if Chris decides not to do it)
  • They are open to doing their wedding on TV, figure it could save them money since Roberto has hundreds of family members to invite.  Ali says she definitely intends to have part of the wedding be yellow - either yellow bridesmaid dresses or have her dress have a yellow sash or something. They are planning on having the wedding next spring or summer, depending on how busy they get.
As for Chris, here's some of the highlights from his interview:

  • On being the next Bachelor, Chris said,  "Honestly, it's something that I'll have to think long and hard about because it was hard watching so much of my personal life and intimate details of dating and love on TV.  And, it's hard to share that kind of thing with many millions of people who watch the show.  So, it's definitely something that I'll have to really think about.  I'm not really sure if I want to share all that again."
  •  Chris knew Ali wasn't choosing him when she walked up the stairs to his hut that day to break up.  They had a great connection up until then.
  • Chris had never seen the show before! (which explains his awesome reaction the overnight fantasy suite invite to Ali and him from Chris Harrison)
  • Chris's dad has gotten as many letters and emails asking him out as Chris!
  • Chris will stay in Cape Cod for the time being (ladies are packing up to go there in masses as we speak!), live with his dad. His brother lives down the street they are just going to prepare for his brother's wedding which is in October.
  • Chris has talked to Roberto every week since the show ended, and he hopes to be lifelong friends with both of them in the future.
Have to say that Chris was a total sweetheart.  He was so polite, so respectful towards Ali and Roberto - even said he thinks they'll last.  Everything that was seen on TV was the real Chris - just a genuine, funny, thoughtful person.

So that's the latest.  If you want Chris to be your next Bachelor - please post here and let him know!!

Best Finale Ever: Ali Gets Her Man, Chris L Will Have Cult Following

Every once in a while, The Bachelor/Bachelorette manages to perform magic. After the last few disappointing seasons, we have finally found a winner. Ali Fedotowsky delivered. My respect for this woman has grown tremendously over the past couple of months. I went from being a doubter during her regrettable bad mouthing of Vienna in Jake’s season to having tears roll down my face as Roberto confessed he would be the man to love her unconditionally, grow old with her and have a beautiful family with her. I had goose bumps. I haven’t felt this swept up in the moment since Trista told Ryan she saw babies with him during the finale her season.

Finally, ABC delivered. Chris Harrison was right when he said the ending would be something that never happened before. It WAS dramatic. It WAS shocking. Halleluyah! After having last season’s result (Jake picking Vienna over Tenley) completely ruined by annoying bloggers and tabloids that find pleasure in ruining surprises, I was elated and shocked when Ali broke up with Chris before her last date. This was such a bold and classy move for a number of reasons – for sure the BEST ending I have ever seen on this show for the following reasons: (1) Chris L, as one of the most loved bachelors of all time, was spared the embarrassment and despair of getting dumped on that last day, after potentially picking out an engagement ring, possibly proposing and then having a crying scene in a boat to the airport; (2) Ali did not feel the need to roll around in the sheets, make-out and be intimate with someone else, the day before getting engaged to someone else (which I have never been able to quite understand in previous seasons); (3) Ali was smart and considerate enough to know that Chris really is an amazing person who has been through enough pain and she wanted to minimize any additional pain to the extent possible; (4) This result has never happened before – so nobody saw it coming – why haven’t other people done this? It was shocking! (5) Ali has confirmed for us what I have often thought throughout season after season – it really is NOT possible to be madly in love with more than one person at the same time. As soon as she realized this, she acted on it. Gold star for Ali!

My respect for Roberto went through the roof last night. The fact that he was willing to put on a full suit and tie when it was probably about 90 degrees speaks volumes. The poor guy was sweating like crazy, but he didn’t even complain (at least not from what we saw). I LOVED the Neil Lane ring he picked out for Ali. I loved how he taught Ali’s mother to salsa dance. He actually made her cry! He really wanted to know how to make Ali happy. He charmed the pants off of Ali’s father as well. Ali’s sister seemed smart as well. It was interesting how the women in Ali’s family preferred Chris (I’m pretty sure the mother and sister were in love with him) while the father preferred Roberto. Regardless, seeing how happy Ali is at the end, I am sure that Beth and Raya confirmed their approval of Roberto. That last date they had with the sting rays swimming around them (I would have FREAKED – Ali is a lot cooler than I am), the jet skis, the private island picnic, swimming in the ocean during a rain storm – could not have been more perfect. It was obvious Ali was going to choose him. I loved the picture/frame that Roberto gave her and the note he wrote on the back. The look on Ali’s face during that moment sealed the deal for me.

Chris L seemed a little tense around Ali’s family. Ali was not as affectionate with him as she was with Roberto. She genuinely liked him, but just not in the same passionate way as with Roberto. I was amazed at all of the things that Chris had in common with Ali’s family – both from Massachusetts, their mothers were both nurses. Ali’s dad was a high school teacher (so was Chris). Both Ali and Chris were caregivers of their sick relatives If Ali were more into Chris, she would have been all over these strange coincidences. Instead, she just sort of accepts them matter-of-factly. Probably one of the most touching moments in Bachelor/Bachelorette history was when the rainbow appeared after Ali broke up with Chris, indicating that Chris’s mother was trying to tell him that it would all be ok. Yes, Chris, because your life will never been the same – everyone loves you!!! No more sadness for this guy. Mind you, as the rainbow appeared, The Husband kept saying – that’s not real! He was convinced it was computer generated. I guess it just seemed too perfect, but wow, what an intense, inspiring moment. I loved that they showed both Ali and Chris seeing the same rainbow and having the same thought even though she had just broken up with him.

Watching Ali’s interactions with her final two men last night, it was pretty obvious that her feelings for Roberto were “en fuego.” She was different with him than with Chris. She could not stop smiling, touching or staring at Roberto. With Chris, she liked him a bunch, but didn’t have that romantic feeling towards him. I was so impressed with how well spoken both Roberto and Chris were with Ali’s family. They are both such genuine men, and while I have been a Chris supporter from the start, Roberto equally won my heart last night. His connection with Ali is unspeakable. I have never seen two people who looked like they were literally glowing – but seeing their interaction on the After the Final Rose – she definitely made the right decision for her. This does not take anything away from Chris L. Something tells me he will have no problem finding his happily ever after.

Women across America are making a pilgrimage to Cape Cod as we speak. I have literally received hundreds of emails, phone calls, text message from all sorts of women. Married women questioning whether to leave their husbands. Single women asking my advice on how to submit their application to ABC to compete for Chris’s love (as of now, he has not been announced as the next Bachelor). Grandmothers asking if I can introduce their daughters to Chris (I don’t know him personally yet, but I’m working on it). If Chris decides to be the next Bachelor, he could potentially reach cult status. The reason is because we saw a gentleman on the show from start to finish. There are no stories about him messing around with 4 girls on the side. The only “gossip” about Chris is that he was a wonderful teacher, his students loved him, he made the noble gesture of dropping everything in his life and helping his sick mother. He’s gorgeous. He’s funny. He’s a guy’s guy. He’s not a celebrity and has no itch to be famous. He’s got a great family. He’s survived great tragedy and is 33 years old – a ripe age for settling down. Mike Fleiss could not have asked for a greater result. He somehow managed to discover the world’s most eligible bachelor and has the potential to increase the ratings of the show with one of the most loved Bachelors of all time. Women love him and men want to be him.  The Husband is even in love with him.  Actually - he kind of groaned at the thought that his wife could potentially be blogging about this guy for an entire season.  He's already asked me to go out and get him that red/blue plaid shirt they continously show Chris L wearing during the show.  We have been considering trying to plan a Hawaii trip for our 1 year anniversary, but after seeing Bora Bora, we may have changed our minds.  Of course seeing those sting rays may have changed my mind back to Hawaii.

I’m guessing the only reason that Chris was not announced as the next Bachelor yet is because the timing is not right. Clearly from the After the Final Rose, Chris does not seem to be 100% over Ali. It would be disingenuous to all of a sudden call him the next Bachelor. It would undermine the very real process he just went through and the very real feelings he developed for Ali. I’m guessing once the ratings decline significantly from the trashy Bachelor Pad, that’s when they will announce Chris’s candidacy.

Everyone looked wonderful on the After the Final Rose last night. Chris L looked like he lost some weight. It was so classy that he was so thankful to Ali for ending things with him early, rather than putting him through their last date and the break up at the finale. Even on the After the Final Rose, he admitted that it made him love her more. On Ali’s end, it validated her love for Roberto that much more and presented her as a caring person. I was so happy that Roberto and Ali have taken the plunge and (1) have so far not announced any intentions to go on Dancing with the Schmucks. I mean Stars. (2) Are not going to do a long distance relationship – Roberto is really making the effort – moving across the country and starting up his business in San Diego (3) They will not be living in Hollywood – it’s a good 3 hours drive from San Diego to LA, so hopefully they will be a little sheltered from the bright lights of Hollywood so they can focus on their relationship. How awesome that they were whisked away immediately after the show to go off to Catalina Island?? I loved seeing how happy they are! They might actually have a shot at making it!

As for Frank....Frank who?  I'm kind of glad he didn't show up for the After the Final Rose. I'm over him.  Seeing her connection with Roberto - and the kind of feelings he has for Ali - it's in a different league than schmucko Frank.  Anyone that confused doesn't deserve the time of day.  It was so much more rewarding to see Ali and Roberto interact than anything Frank could have possibly said.  Who cares about Frank? I certainly don't. Ali has closure - she's got her man.  She's forgiven him - another sign she's in a good place right now.  Movin' on...

I can’t promise that I will do long blog posts on Bachelor Pad. Kissing competitions and the cast just don’t do it for me. I’m going to recharge a bit and get ready for hopefully the Chris L Bachelor season. I will be posting updates from time to time, so please be sure to check back.

My write up of the teleconference with Ali, Roberto and Chris will be up as soon after I speak to them as possible, til then… Congrats to Ali and Roberto – all the best. Chris – get ready! The women are coming after you!

Wow...Just Wow

I won't ruin it for you west coasters. But holy cow...nobody ever saw this coming...

Who's Ready for the Finale??

Just a couple of short hours away!  The Husband and I are preparing for a night of excitement.  We are debating whether to hit the gym, go for a walk, go for a run to Central Park, or come up with any excuse not to.  We actually flipped a subway card to see whether or not we should go.  It came up on the side that said we shouldn't go, and it didn't take us much to go with that. Lazy!

I've gotten phone calls, emails and texts all day about what I believe happens tonight.  I have actually read People magazine and US magazine's opinions which I won't share here for those who have managed to avoid the gossip (good for you!).  I'm not sure what is going to happen, but Chris Harrison has promised that will be different than any other ending, so not sure what to expect.

I hope for something interesting.  Either way, I will be speaking to my new friends Ali, Chris L and Roberto and will be sure to ask them some of your questions.  My article about the teleconference with them will be posted at TVBR.com later this week and I will post the link when it's available.   Apologies if it takes a couple of days.  I'm swamped at work, have a doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon and in between all of this, I've got to somehow blog about the most dramatic season finale EVER.

Enjoy tonight's show! I feel like it's Superbowl Monday!!!
