Hometown Dates, A Visit from Superman and One Glorious Return
The Boyfriend is back tonight watching The Bachelorette with me. I think he may have actually missed watching the show (or smiling during a particularly sweet moment between Jillian and some lucky guy when he thinks I'm not looking). In any event...we're back.
Tonight it's hometown dates. In Banff Springs, Alberta, Canada, Jillian is reflecting (in last week's rose ceremony dress) on her upcoming hometown dates. In her yellow scarf of the week, Jillian is off to Philadelphia, PA to meet Reid's family. She gets out of the car and into his arms as cherry blossoms are in full bloom behind them. This is very symbolic of their relationship. He's got coffee waiting for her (cute that he knew what to get her). She's clearly giddy as a school girl to see him and meet his family. Reid seems to be a front runner. Did Jillian darken her hair since we've last seen her? They walk around a little in Philly and after a few glances of some buildings, Jillian thinks she could definitely live there. I was actually in Philadelphia on Saturday, and definitely had a different ride than Jillian because after almost 7 hours round trip from New York City, I was over Philly, or more accurately, the New Jersey turnkpike.
We get to Reid's family - Rhonda, Larry (his parents) and brothers Brett and Chad. They seem to be a very nice, typical Jewish family. Rhonda gets right in there with the questions and is very to the point. We learn that Reid is not just a realtor - it's actually a family business. "We're thinking Reid's going to get married some day...now that Reid's approaching 30, we'd like to see him settle down." Yup, sounds like a nice Jewish mom. What a yenta! Rhonda is pretty attractive. She tells Jillian straight up that she thinks she's adorable. The brothers are married and they'd like to see their bro be too. Larry the Dad tells Reid to process whether she's a good match for him and if she is, to go into it head over heels even knowing he could get hurt. This family seems a little too focused on the fact that Reid is 30 and therefore he should head straight to the chuppah. That said, every Jewish family is not satisfied until you're hitched with 2-3 kids and a career. On the upside, they seem like a very loving and typically "involved" Jewish family - in that they like to stay connected to Reid's life.
Larry seems like the calm one in the marriage. You can tell he's the more quiet and thoughtful in contrast to the more outspoken Rhonda, the real estate agent. Next thing we know, we have three women - show up unexpectedly - they are Reid's two sisters in law and his grandmother. They bring Reid a birthday cake for his 30th birthday. Reid and Jillian kiss in front of the whole family. The women in his family are surprised to see him so affectionate with a girl. Looks like Jillian hit it off with one of his nieces - she sits in Jillian's lap. Reid says in a private video to the camera that he could be falling in love with her. She is clearly into him. There's plenty of smooching at the end of this hometown date.
Next hometown visit is with Michael. Holy cow - did we know he has an identical twin brother? Michael is from Valencia, CA and is totally excited to see Jillian. Michael sneaks into his house and jumps up and down like a monkey when he sees his brother Steve and his mom Lynn in the kitchen. They come greet him along with his dad Frank. Jillian shows up at the door and rings the doorbell. This seems like a much less personal greeting than if Michael had met up with Jillian privately beforehand as on the other dates. Perhaps that was Jillian's request - maybe she didn't want that alone time with him.
Michael and his brother go upstairs and switch clothes. They plot the conversations they will have with Jillian as the other. One funny line is when Michael says, "Should I say - do you like him more than a friend?" This couldn't be any more Wonder Yearsish and despite the fact that Michael has really grown me - probably more so than any of the other guys, he repeatedly displays the youth card. I'm not saying that he wouldn't be good in a serious relationship - I just think he is not a good match for Jillian.
Quite interestingly, Jillian knew right away that the twins had switched clothes. The dad has some alone time with Michael and also seems very normal and down to earth. He recognizes that his son is in deep, and he tells Michael that Jillian is very sweet. Brother Steve asks Jillian about Michael's age. (Side note: The Boyfriend thinks that Jillian looks tired on this hometown date. I think she looks increasingly more tired as the dates continue, but she still looks very cute). Steve tells Jillian that him and his twin have always wanted to get married young to have time with their wives before starting a family.
Later on, they're eating dinner. The door opens, and Michael's sister Jenna walks in - who came back from Australia just to meet Jillian. Michael's mother is practically in tears. Then everybody starts dancing in the living room. Lynn recognizes that there's a lot of fun between Jillian and Michael. There's no doubt about that, but have they kissed yet? I think maybe they did once, but it doesn't stand out to me. It's kind of ridiculous that she is meeting his parents when they have yet to have any real physical intimacy. Speaking of physical intimacy, I'm surprised ABC didn't fake us out one more time with a preview of one of the bachelors having some issues in the bedroom. Didn't they show us that during every commercial last week and this week we didn't see it once? Very annoying.
Anyhow, Michael and Jills do partake in some serious kissing on his parents' driveway - in complete high school style. Michael has fallen in. He's really into her. I kind of feel bad for him - he's a sweet guy and I think Jillian likes him a lot, but is not in love with him.
Next we're on to Kiptyn in Encinitas, CA. Jills is squeaking with pleasure when she meets the Kipper. She's wearing an adorable blue dress and they drink some wine by the beach. You can tell that Jillian is pretty nervous to meet the family. They drive up to an incredible house and an adorable little dog runs up to them. Eve and Earl (the parents), sister, brother Bryce and girlfriend Nancy are there to greet her. Holy cow, Kiptyn is LOADED. If his kind personality and good looks don't get her, the house certainly will. They take her outside where they show a hot tub covered in tape with the word "CAUTION" written all over it - a tribute to Jillian's steamy hot tub scenes from last season with Jason. Obviously, Kiptyn's parents are huge fans of the show. I thought it was really odd that they gave Jillian lasagna and wine taste test. That's sort of a snobbish thing to do - I would never be able to pass a test like that and trying to impress people that are into that kind of stuff would have been a big turn off for me. Also, both of his parents speak French - and are sure that Jillian knows this and can be impressed by it. Seemed like an unnecessary detail to me.
Kiptyn's mother pulls Jillian aside and starts grilling her. Again, turnoff. The mother asks if there's something that she could change about Kiptyn, what would it be? Jillian says she's used to "working for her happiness." Kiptyn's mother tells her that is wrong. As Jillian says, "She didn't bat an eye." The Boyfriend says, "She couldn't bat an eye. There's too much Botox." Eve says that Kiptyn has a little spark that she hasn't seen in a long time. Later on in the night, Jillian gets into an adorable bathing bikini and gets some hot tub time in Kiptyn. Eve overlooks the two of them from the window inside and inspects them. She seems like she'd be a high maintenance mother in law. They should wrap her in the "Caution" tape from the hot tub. Once in the hot tub, Kiptyn and Jillian kiss, however, it seems to go a bit awkardly.
Carmel, CA is next to meet Jesse and his family's winery. Holy cow again, these guys are all loaded. Is there a net worth requirement to be on this show? Jillian runs toward him squeaking, "How are youuuuu?" Jesse greets Jillian in a beige blazer and a tractor. She's wearing a ridiculously trendy half French braid in her hair. Jess and Jill sit in the fields and chat about their relationship. Looks like Jesse got a haircut and those hairs went to his chin. There's a little goatee action. Jesse admits that in his relationships - he takes a while to figure things out. Jillian gets to meet Joseph, Betty (his parents) and his brother, Jacob. They are Hungarian. Jake looks like he could start up a banjo band. Jillian says she's low maintenance - and is a bit defensive about it. You can tell that Jacob is the black sheep in this family - and seems to not believe at all in the Bachelorette process (which may mean he's perfectly normal). With his long hair and ridiculous goatee (did Jesse grow his to fit in?), Jacob starts interrogating his brother, "Do you love this chick?" Jesse says he's on the 5 year plan with Jillian. Jesse talks about opening up a wine bar with Jillian.
Jacob admits there's a bit of excitement in his brother's voice. Then Jacob gets his turn grilling Jillian. "Have you guys been naked together?" asks the brother. What kind of a question is that for trying to get to know someone? Jillian says he's a "late bloomer." Putting in the good word for his brother, Jake calls Jesse an "emotional ice cube." Probably the best part of the date is when the whole family starts rocking out together and Jillian dances with Jesse's whole family. It actually looked like a lot of fun. Jesse's brother tells him, "Yeah, you should marry her." There is some making out, and it's clear Jillian likes him.
It's Austin, TX and Jillian is on her fifth and final hometown date to meet up with Wes. More squeaking and she's in Wes's arms. Wes says he has a huge surprise for her. He opens a door and Wes's band is there. This is NOT, however, a surprise for the audience - as we have the seen the preview of Wes's band about 30 times at this point. I kind of feel really bad for Jillian at this moment because she's so immediately thrilled and excited by the band, and yet ABC wants us to hate Wes because he's using her for publicity and because he already has a supposed girlfriend. Wes does say he has a new CD coming out, and his appearance on the show might actually hurt his sales with his sleaze factor. I really hope we get to the bottom of this. Weren't you hoping that Laurel would call up Jillian at some point tonight or just show up at her hotel room and say, "Yes, Jillian, I am Wes's girlfriend." We need some kind of finality and closure on this point.
Meanwhile, Jake appears - he's concerned for Jillian and was told by Wes several times that he has a girlfriend. I wonder if ABC set this up so that she doesn't end up picking Wes in the end and getting dumped at the finale. That would make for horrible television. But given Jillian's decision - she has made it clear that she wants to be the one to figure out whether Wes is telling the truth or not. In a Top Gunnish pilot suit, Jake arrives and is ready for action.
Jillian is sitting around waiting for Wes to come pick her up to meet his family when she gets a knock at the door - it's Jake the Pilot. Jake says he's not there to get her back. Jake has a hard time telling Jillian this, but he finally tells her that Wes has a girlfriend, and her name is Laurel. Wes has confided in Jake about it and mentioned her at least three times. How on earth can Jillian get upset about Wes when Superman is sitting in front of her?? It's kind of ridiculous that she'd get emotional when the cutest guy ever cares enough about you to fly back to Texas to warn you about something. Jake says he will be there for her if she needs him. Can we just name Jake as the next Bachelor right now?
Jillian puts herself back together and greets Wes. Jillian announces that she needs to talk to him. She asks him if has anything to tell her about her past or anything. Jillian says that Jake says that he has a girlfriend. Wes says that he had a girlfriend Laurel and she's still one of his very good friends. Wes denies it currently being the case, claims he's being honest, that he's "not that good of a liar." The Boyfriend thinks he's a snake. Jillian asks if he wants to clear it up with Jake. She calls Jake over, and Jake says, "He's there for Jillian...and he'll hold (Wes) accountable." This guy is like the sheriff of Texas. I love how he greets Wes at the door with his hands on his hips. I wouldn't have been surprised if he took a pistol out.
Jake says he came down there to make sure that Jillian doesn't get her heartbroken. Jake asks Wes to look him in the eye and tell him that he never told him (Jake) that he has a girlfriend. Jillian leads Jake out in the hallway where he bawls his eyes out over the railing. Is this ABC's campaign to show a heartbroken man who needs to be the next Bachelor? The Boyfriend thinks he's going to throw himself over the railing.
"Do I trust the all American perfect guy or do I trust the all-Texan badboy?" says Jillian. Is this a rhetorical question? You never trust Wes. That's the answer. After some more sweet talking, Wes convinces her to come meet his family. We meet his mom Carolyn and his three sisters. They sit down for dinner, and they tell his family why they are so late. Wes's family convinces Jillian that he does not have a girlfriend. Wes calls Jake a "backstabbing, piece of #)$@_$!!" If this guy doesn't have a girlfriend, he definitely has something about him that makes him untrustworthy.
Being back in LA, Jillian gets another knock on the door and it's Ed in Argyle!!! I have to say, I have been and still am a HUGE ED FAN. It totally made my night after some long hometown dates. Ed says that he realized he made a big mistake and needed to "reprioritize what he's doing and he wants another shot." Props to Ed for putting the over-demanding job on hold and taking a risk at love. Either his boss got a lot of heat for making him come home early or Ed realized that Jillian was too good to let go. Ed said he got pretty emotional and was breaking down a little bit after he left. He says he felt terrible and kept thinking about it - that he made a bad choice and he'd never want to do it again. Ed says she should let him come back. Is she allowed to let him come back? What are the rules here? They seem to change every season.
Ed says he doesn't think there's anyone else on the show that's more compatible with Jillian than him. He promises not to let her down anymore. She looks instantly happy. Jillian says she gets so many butterflies. Her concerns, however, are that they have lost a lot of time together, that she will not get to meet his family, etc.
It's the night of the rose ceremony. Jillian appears in a gorgeous strapless, butter colored chiffon gown. She looks beautiful. Chris sits her down and asks her questions we all know the answers to. She says she's not sure she could accept a proposal from Ed without meeting his family. This is the first time we hear her talk about possibly getting engaged to any of them. Jillian makes an interesting point re: evil Wes - she'd rather make her own decision, be wrong and get burned then follow someone else's lead, be wrong and get burned. I'm not sure either of these are preferable, but whatever. Jillian claims she loved each and every one of the hometown dates. I have to agree, there weren't any dead pigeon burial moments. In fact, it was quite the opposite - she seemed to blend in wherever she went.
It's the rose ceremony and all 5 guys have arrived. Once Chris the Host announces that Ed is back, Michael looks so upset; he knows he's a gonner. The look on Ed's face when Jillian shows up in her gorgeous gown is priceless. Roses go to: Reid, Kiptyn, ED!! and Wes (boooooooo!!!). Jesse gives her a hug and walks away. Michael comes over to Jillian and gives her a big hug. Michael said that for a girl that just broke his heart, he can't say a bad thing about the girl. He said there are 100,000 small things between them. He says he "straight up loved that girl...would have been on his knee right now." Him and Jesse seem like really nice people. In the end, I think Michael was just too young - not in age - but in experience. Jesse seemed a bit reserved to me for Jillian's personality, though the fact that his family owns a wine vineyard speaks volumes (and really, what more is there to say?)
Kiptyn's family sings during the credits about "The Bachelorette Blues," - with Kip's dad on guitar and his mother dancing next to Jillian and Kip. Pretty funny.
So overall, a much more interesting show than last week. The Wes drama is getting old. I'd like some closure on this. Second, I couldn't be happier that Ed is back. I thought he was a frontrunner before, and think he has a chance of winning the whole thing. After meeting Kiptyn's family, I'm a bit turned off by them. Reid seems cool and I liked his family, but he's a bit quirky still. Ed is the all around solid guy - he works hard, realized he made a mistake, and is coming back full force to claim his woman. I'm cheering for him.
What did you think of this week? Do you think Ed will go all the way? Are Kiptyn and Reid still at the top of your list? Do you believe Wes that he doesn't have a girlfriend? Are you angry at Jillian for getting rid of Michael and Jesse? Let's hear it!

Michael's Tears
Did you guys catch this on the last episode? Skateboarder Michael was crying after Robby got eliminated. Does anybody else think this is a bit much? I can understand being sad if you got dumped and you were really into the person, but crying because your friend got left behind - advancing you closer to being with someone you could potentially fall in love with? Odd.

ABC and Its Patterns of Picking the Heartsick
Here's an interesting article featuring Jason's take on how ABC uses the audience's sympathy for those who are dumped in creating the next Bachelor/Bachelorette:

Good Guys Finish Last (or in 6th place)
This has been the longest day ever. After back to back meetings and calls all day at work, I had a conference call at 6:30 PM tonight which didn't end until 8. Doesn't anybody else need prep time for The Bachelorette? Well, I do. As of 10:35 PM, I haven't even had dinner yet and The Boyfriend went to see a sneak preview of the movie, Transformers, so I'm sure he's all popcorned up. If it's a choice of dinner or The Bachelorette, I'm going with The Bachelorette. At least until the apple on my Mac starts looking appetizing. Yes, I need a life.
I'm dedicating this blog post to my mother (do people dedicate blog posts?). She has been working so hard tying up loose ends and been so strong since her mother, my Grandma Evelyn, passed away last week. I know she has been watching the show and finds it a great escape from all the craziness in her life these past few weeks. Hang in there, Ma. You are amazing. We love you.
On tonight's bachelor - Chris gathers the 8 remaining guys together in their Whistler hotel room. There are 3 dates this week: 1 group date, 2 one on one dates. The 5 remaining guys who get roses, will go to their hometowns with Jillian. This is a HUGE upgrade from last season where Jason only went on 4 hometown dates (Molly, Melissa, Jillian and Naomi - remember the dead bird funeral?)
This week, the group goes into the Canadian wilderness by train - on the Rocky Mountaineer.
Tanner P announces that he has never been on a train. How does that happen? I took 2 trains to work this morning, and two home. From Vancouver, Jillian wears yet another pair of dangling earrings. She looks cute in a navy blue pea coat looking thing and a cute red plaid shirt, belted over blue leggings. They are leaving Vancouver to see some of the most beautiful places in North America. The train goes by beautiful lakes and snow covered mountains. Jillian talks about how much she misses Ed. She wants to be cheered up. I think the idea of being on a train all week may sound good in theory and even though the scenery is beautiful, it didn't make for wonderful drama this week. There was a bit of foot fetish and Wes self publicity that came out, but other than that, it was a bit of a yawn fest.
Robby gets the first one on one date on the rail car. He's wearing a ridiculous top hat. He says he's really nervous for it. The guys are sipping champagne and speculating about the date.
Is anybody else on this train? Can't you just picture them crashing the dates? I bet Wes says he's going to the bathroom, but secretly has an affair with at least 3 women on the train. One of the cars is completely decorated like a carnival with colorful netting, etc. Jillian shows up to come get Robby. His mentality is "I think I can. I think I can." How perfect in a Little Engine That Could Kinda way. He performs some of his bartending techniques for her, which she does not pick up. They show her attempts to flip a cup about 30 times, unsuccessfully. They get liquored up and Jillian and him stare at the scenery. Eventually they hit up the caboose where a meal is waiting for them. Is anybody else yawning at their date?
Robby tells Jillian that he's the youngest of 4, that there's some sort of curse on his family as none of them are married, and that they all think he's going to get married first. Jillian is ready to pop out some kids soon, so she wants to know from Robby whether he's ready for "more than settling down." That must be a lot of pressure to put on someone. He's young, he's in between jobs, and not really sure what he wants to do. Sounds like a PERFECT candidate to start a family. Jillian's a practical girl and this must raise red flags in her mind. Robby seems like a nice guy - just not necessarily someone who is ready to get married and start carpooling anytime soon.
They next enter the pretty, colorful train car, "Jillian's room," that is set up with pillows everywhere and netting around them. Robby confesses to being nervous, but he can't quite articulate why. "He wishes he had a bigger vocabulary so he could express how he feels." Jillian discusses that she thinks Robby is great, but not ready for the things that she is ready for. The train comes to a halt in the middle of nowhere. There's even a sign that says "danger." He asks why they are slowing down. Jillian starts giving him the "best friend" speech - that if they had met earlier, they might be able to get married. She says she is really afraid to take the risk with him. She gives him the boot in the middle of the train tracks. She says it's really hard on her (though, no tears). I wonder if Jillian is allowed to just say, "I'm just not that into you."
The guys watch with anticipation as he leaves. She gives him a big bear hug and a pout, but I think she's completely ok with this departure. I think I'm ok with it too. He thinks it's the family curse - No, Robby - it's your age and lack of direction that terrifies Jillian. The conversation "never got as deep," with Robby, according to Jillian. So we're down to 7. Let's point out for the record that Tanner P and Michael the Breakdancer made it to the Top 7. That's so ridiculously strange and awesome.
Wes's claws come out this episode. Jillian takes a nap in her train car. Wes comes to comfort her. He's probably back from his visit to 10 other trains cars handing out CDs and headshots. "There's no doubt that this is going to help me...I've got records to sell...I'll always have Jillian wrapped around my little finger..." Come on, is ABC paying him to say this horrible stuff? He knows this will be shown on TV, why on earth would he say he's on the show for press? He's either dumb or getting paid.
The train continues on over rivers, beautiful trees, etc. It's the next morning and Jillian has breakfast with the boys in her cute, red zip-up sweatshirt. Looks like champagne is on the breakfast menu. She hands them the date card and leaves them. Tanner, Wes, Michael, Jesse, Jake and Kiptyn are on the group date. This leaves Reid with the one on one date. "Prepare for romance in the Rocky Mountains." Mike says, he doesn't know what that means, but he doesn't care because he's going after her." Go Mike! You gotta love his ambition.
Reid gets left behind on the train while the rest go off for a day of snowshoeing. Tanner immediately grabs the red snowshoes and offers them to Jillian. She thinks it's because these are smaller, but in reality, he is psyched to be near her feet. Of course they are in the mountains and it's freezing, so she has boots on, and won't be taking them off. Holy cow, please do something about Foot Fetish guy, Jillian! The guys are all awkward learning how to walk in the snowshoes. They are also all enthralled with Jillian in her snow gear. They play hide and seek in the woods. Jake appreciates that in every direction they look, it's a postcard. He finds her hiding beneath a tree and just cuddles with her. "Rolling around in the snow. The whole thing is kind of surreal," says Jake. Especially with 5 other guys watching you. Jake's hot.
Reid starts wandering around the train and runs into the train staff. He meets with a cute blonde staff member and asks whether he should wear his glasses on his upcoming date with Jillian. Meanwhile, he's walking around with a glass of wine. He moves on to a male employee member of the train who tells him he should vocalize his feelings about her. Were these guys trained by ABC to say such ridiculous cliches? Reid must have been bored out of his mind. What do you do by yourself on a train for a full day with no company? I am sure Wes made out with the blonde staff member, btw.
Back to the date, they keep walking around on their snowshoes. Jake really wants a hometown date so he can show Jillian what he's like in his element - flying planes. Wow, I'd like to see him in his element too. So would millions of other ladies.
The group date continues in a cabin where they seem to be having a great time. Jillian takes Jake out alone with her. He says he's falling for her. He never thought he would meet a girl like Jillian. They are holding hands and I am not sure how she is able to have a conversation with him as he looks gorgeous in his blue snow jacket.
"You're a lot like my mom," says Jake. "She's nurturing..." Jillian doesn't know whether to be flattered or insulted. Is Jake attracted to his mother? Hmmm. She asks him about what his hometown would be like it. Jake pleads with her to come. They are smiling by the fireside and he says that the "conversation is electric." The guys come in and invade their talk. Jakes is pissed he didn't kiss her and tell her how he felt.
Kipytn takes her away and she drapes her high red boots on his legs. They hold hands and he says that he's not a guy who wants what he can't have. He's more attracted to someone that's into him. His analysis is very girly - totally over analytical, but adorable too.
"When Kiptyn and I are together, our bodies just get close together in such a natural way...." They really do have such an easy chemistry between them.
Michael starts asking Jillian questions like "What do you wear to sleep?" Tanner starts saying that he's a little bit shy. Yeah right, that's EXACTLY why he strips down to his tighty whiteys and says "It's kind of like a thong..." He says he does this because he wants a hometown date. Way to seal the deal!
"I'm definitely developing feelings...but I don't need to see the package...it was definitely big, but I don't need to see it," says Jillian. Tanner then takes her for some alone time and immediately asks if he can rub her feet. He lotions her up while he starts talking to her about the other guys. "Her feet are ridiculous. They are the closest thing I've seen to perfect and I've critiqued a lot of feet." He then interrupts himself to start telling her how awesome her feet are. He loves her high arches, the nail polish, etc. "Now that I've felt how soft her feet are, I want her to meet my family." If there's ever been a great reason to take someone to meet your parents, I can't think of a better one than the fact that he or she has great feet. Where did they find this guy? Is he a paid actor? Do you think he'd introduce Jillian's feet to his family first? Doe she have framed pictures of toes around his home? These are the things I'd like to have seen in a hometown visit. The rest of the guys, besides Wes, seem so straight arrow and normal, maybe they needed someone with a little pazzazz to spice things up.
Jesse is worried that he didn't get to sit down with her. He gets some alone time with her in front of a fire, on a fur rug of some sort. Jesse says he's not comfortable in the group environment. Their faces are very close together as they talk about this - her legs are entwined with his. Jesse says his family would fall in love with her - "there's not a doubt in (his) mind." They start kissing with the Bachelorette guitar romance music picking up full steam in the background. Jillian loves that Jesse has opened up a bit more. Looks like he's secured his rose.
Michael gets his turn and him and Jillian roast marshmallows together. They start feeding each other and he is anxious to start talking to her about more serious stuff. Michael says, "I light up like a light bulb when I'm around you." Jillian is worried about Michael's age - he makes her laugh and she likes being around him, but there's just not a physical connection at this point. He's funny, though. At one point he says, that his dog would be pissed if he doesn't marry her.
Tanner confesses to letting Jillian know about one of the guys having a girlfriend. Wes says, "I can't stand a tattle tale...I keep other people's name out of my mouth. I don't bring it up, it's not my business why anybody else is here..." Jakes notices that Wes got defensive.
Quote of the night from evil Wes:
"I've already made it 6 shows now...That's going to be a huge thing for me. I already sang my song that I wrote for Jillian. Freaken serenaded her. It's a no brainer. If i can get a little publicity on TV, I can haul ass or I can stay and try to get the girl." Grrrrr, the cat is out of the bag. Wes is evil. How is Jillian going to find out this information??
"He is an awful human," says Tanner. All the guys are pissed. Jesse says he still won't tell Jillian - he'd rather her figure it out. The guys march shirtless to an outdoor hottub. It's an AMAZING chance to see Kiptyn and his ripped chest. In the hot tub, Jillian gives the rose to Kiptyn - and she's excited to meet his family.
Back on the train, Jake is kicking himself for not saying the things he wanted to say to Jillian. Jake goes into Jillian's train car and confesses his feelings for her. At some points they are holdings hands and in other scenes they are not. He says to her, "I'm not going to tell you that I'm in love with you...but all the things are lining up." They have a very cute kiss and Jillian thanks him for telling her this." But basically she says she already knows what his feelings are already. Bad sign. She's not that into him. Meanwhile, on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Jake says that Jillian is exactly who he wants to marry and he means this with everything that he is. Ohhhh boy. I feel some heartbreak coming on. Jillian just doesn't seem that into him. He really may be too perfect - and a bit dorky. But damn cute.
Next, Jillian is taking Reid on a date to Lake Louise. It's his first time off the train in like 48 hours. They will do some snowboarding, which Reid has never done before. Jillian teaches him how to do it. Reid is terrible. He must have fallen dozens of times. This is not a very romantic date. But they are enjoying each other's company. Jesse doesn't think that Reid is right for Jillian - calls him annoying. Hmmm. Is Reid annoying? His hair is a little crazy, but I don't think this is annoying.
They walk along the mountain during sunset and there are ice sculptures everywhere. It's an ice sculpture lounge. Cue in Bachelorette romantic music. They gaze into each other's eyes and Reid talks about what he wants with his life " to be in love... kids...love...happiness." They are actually sitting on ice sculptures. It looks absolutely freezing! The Boyfriend would love it. They kiss in their ski jackets. She said she feels the need to take him back to the hotel and "chat" with him about this chemistry. Ahh, is that what they're calling it these days?
They arrive at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise (Fairmont is getting amazing publicity!). Jillian takes Reid into a hotel room and there's a rose on the table. Reid tells Jillian that fondue kind of freaks him out. Jillian finds his neuroticness endearing. At this point he could say anything and she'd find it cute. She's attracted to him. I like what she says about having a list of things they think they're attracted to and then throwing it all away when there's chemistry. Very true. But then, he makes the mistake of saying he typically goes for blondes. He probably came on the show to date Molly. Oops.
Jillian untwines herself from Reid's body long enough to tell Reid that she's wondering about if they have enough in common but decides she'll give him the rose and figure it out. Reid is cute, he thinks that their relationship is moving in the right direction and she could be his wife. Jillian is into him. Seems like Kiptyn and Reid are way above the competition.
It's Banff Springs on the train and the romantic music is back. Who's at the end of the line? It's Chris Harrison. Chris announces that the guys should get ready for the rose ceremony. He takes Jillian away to talk with her. Chris asks her what she thinks of Wes - she seems to know that coming on the show won't hurt his music career, but she still thinks he's there for her too. Can't Chris just tell her that he's a fraud??!!
It's the rose ceremony. Jillian comes out in hot black outfit. I almost think that Wes is rolling his eyes as Jillian gives her speech about how hard it has been on her. Jillian says she still has a few questions she wants to ask. Jillian pulls Michael aside and he basically says that he loves her and he wants to be a young dad.
Roses go to: Jesse, Wes and Michael! Holy cow, Jake is OUT! How did that happen??? It really just seems that she did not feel that spark with Jake. He was too perfect for her. Ugh, and the big kick in the face is that Wes gets picked over Jake. A breakdancer over a gorgeous pilot? What is she thinking?? Tanner just gives her a hug and walks away. He still thinks of himself as reserved. You stripped down to your underwear!
Jake asks what was wrong - and she can't really answer except to say it didn't feel right. "Nice guys finish last," he says. Ouch. Poor guy - his eyes well up with tears. So sad.
Holy cow the coming attractions look ridiculous. Wes takes her to meet his band (more self promotion - at least he's fully honest about it - well, to everyone except Jillian), Jakes comes back to tell Jillian about Wes's girlfriend, someone is having troubles in the bedroom, it also looks like at the very end Jillian gets a marriage proposal from someone other than her final two. This is getting good. Hopefully it will make up for tonight's somewhat boring episode.
Who do you think comes back? Is it Ed? Would Ed actually propose marriage at his point? Is it Jake? Who is having bedroom difficulties? Do you care? Were you bored tonight? Will Kiptyn, Jesse and Reid be the final 3? Should be interesting.
I'm dedicating this blog post to my mother (do people dedicate blog posts?).

DeAnna Pappas and Holly - still angry about Jesse?
There's some sort of Twitter rage going on with the newly formed "team" of the anti-Jesses: that would be DeAnna Pappas and Holly Durst, both exes of Jesse Csincsak (btw, it's a good thing they broke up with him - how on earth are they supposed to remember how to spell his last name??). As you may know, DeAnna and Holly are new best friends, after a trip to Las Vegas together with other ex bachelors and bachelorettes and you can only imagine what some alcohol, a trip to Vegas and the thrill of bashing your ex with somebody who knows EXACTLY what you're talking about can do to form an intense friendship. Looks like the two of them will be interviewed by Reality Steve and oh (shocker) we find out that DeAnna was PAID to go visit Jason last season and stir up some trouble (we learned from DeAnna that she was there to give him advice, not to win him back). Who else is happy that the DeAnna/Jason saga is behind us? To better days and relationships for both them!

It's official: Melissa is going to Good Morning America
Good for her! Yes, say all you want about her riding out her 145 minutes of fame, but I'm happy for her. There's a lesson to be learned here. In every rainstorm, there's a rainbow?. Feel free to add your favorite cliche here, but way to make lemonade, Melissa! http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2009/06/18/2009-06-18_dancing_with_the_stars_and_the_bachelor_vet_melissa_rycroft_joins_abcs_good_morn.html

Chris Harrison's Blog this week - 3 Funny Things We Didn't Know
Some interesting stuff is revealed in Chris Harrison's blog post this week. First off, on the way up to Whistler, a couple of the guys got car sick and actually threw up in their van trip up. Chris suspects that Michael was one of them - poor guy was probably nauseous for hours and then had to go right out on a date with Jillian.
Second, Jillian asked the guys what the worst thing they've done was - and Wes responded that he'd slept with his teacher. Hmmm. Maybe he's not so innocent country boy as he seems, right?
Next, during the snowmobiling, Reid and Mark got lost and it turns out they kind of snowmobiled off a little cliff, and Reid claims he hurt his groin muscle.
Also, Jillian admits that she immediately regretted not sending both Mark and Mike from New City home last week on the 2 on 1 date. Interesting.
I love hearing about the stuff they don't air on TV. Interesting how Chris does not comment how 1) Ed was able to be in contact with his boss, since don't they have no access to the outside world? 2) Why Ed kept the rose that Jillian gave him (does this mean he's coming back?)
Melissa Lands Gig at Good Morning America
Thanks to a tip from Lauren, one of the blog's readers, I found out that Melissa Rycroft, who as you all know was proposed to by former Bachelor, Jason, then dumped on TV at the reunion episode for runner-up, Molly, is now going to work for Good Morning America. It seems that Melissa, who most recently came in third place on Dancing with the Stars, will be doing summer segments for GMA - on light and fun topics. Seems perfect for her.
Wow, who knew that getting dumped could lead to so much success? She's probably the most admired dumpee in American history.
I Love The Bachelor/Bachelorette Blog...Approaching 100,000 Hits!
Just wanted to thank all of the readers and supporters of this blog. In just 5 months, I have received tons of emails, comments and sometimes even packages (oh and gotta love the hate email too). It's hard to believe that just 5 months ago, I was sitting in my office at Lehman, wondering what I was doing with my life. I still haven't answered that question, but I think I'm getting closer to finding a good answer. That said, I appreciate all of your kind words and comments about this ridiculous, entertaining and awesome show - that can so easily take us out of our every day life for a couple of hours each week. At the very least, it's a wonderful distraction.
Looking forward to many more seasons of blogging about this crazy show, and the hope that some day, someone out there will read my nonsense, and give me a chance at writing for them.
That said, here's to many more blog posts, podcasts and awesome comments from you all (and another 100,000 hits!)

Ahhh, no wonder he had to rush home. He had just taken a new job with Microsoft. That makes a little more sense. There's tons of rumors, btw, that he returns. We'll have to wait and see:

Grandma Evelyn, 1908-2009
I am waiting for my parents to come pick up me and The Boyfriend to attend my mother's mother, Grandma Evelyn's funeral. Evelyn was 101 when she died yesterday morning in her home in the Bronx, in the same house where my mother grew up. Evelyn was a teacher, received her Master's degree from Columbia University, and was an extremely intelligent and warm lady. She was able to meet her grandchildren and four great grandsons and this past April, we all celebrated her 101st birthday together at her home.
It's funny - it's not that we didn't know she couldn't live forever, but now that she's gone, it still seems too short. In 32 years, she has always been at every major event in my life, and now there will always be something missing at future events. That said, she had a very good run. We love and miss you, Grandma Evelyn.

The Bachelorette Recap: An Unexpected Departure, A Glacier and More Dangling Earrings
Tonight's episode began with a recap of Jillian's horrible alone time with David where he talked
about Jillian's "ass" one too many times. It then went on to last week's gripping rose ceremony where the men state that they do not have girlfriends at home - and Tanner almost cries. Is anyone else wondering how on earth the Foot Fetish guy has made it this far??!! Good for him.
Tonight, they are in gorgeous Whistler (British Columbia), and we see Jillian in her awesome plush white bath robe in her luxury hotel room with a sick view of the slopes. They are in Whistler at the ski village. In her 7 jeans and a red hooded sweatshirt, she greets the guys. The guys get put in another suite (it's the Fairmont again) with a gorgeous view.
It's so funny how Jillian is a full head shorter than all of the guys. She's got 2 one on one dates and one group date this week. Michael gets the first one - "Come fly with me," says his clue from Jillian. So the break dance instructor slaps five to all his frat brothers, I mean, the other bachelors, and starts chewing gum like a cow as he gets psyched for his jello wrestling match, I mean, date with Jillian.
Despite his goofiness, Michael is pretty funny - everything he says is screaming of fraternity/single guy. "I could sit in a room with her and eat spaghetti and I'm going to have a lot of fun tonight." Huh? Does this make any sense? No, but everything he says is said with complete enthusiasm, so it's OK. If I was taking bets at the beginning of the season, I would not think that Michael would be around at this point in the game. On what planet would an almost 30 year old career woman who wants to get married and settle down (and who just last season was even willing to become a stepmom) be remotely interested in a 25 year old breakdancer?? The two of them go zip-lining. He makes her laugh and doesn't stop talking for two seconds. Jillian has plenty of squeaking opportunities on this date. They gear up and Jillian goes first, screaming and squeaking the whole time, almost entirely upside down. Michael is loving this date - and just goes with it. He looks like he's done this before. Perhaps blindfolded and naked during his fraternity's hell
week? This date looks pretty awesome. Michael definitely has the Jesse (from DeAnna's season) factor: the crazy fun side, always laughing, no holding back on any thought or gesture and hugs her as if he's taking a date to his 6th grade dance. "Spark of awesomeness" is how he describes the date. They sit down for some hot chocolate when they finish the zip lining and talk about sky-diving. It's pretty obvious that once they need to have any conversation, this relationship seems to be OVER. He still doesn't stop talking or using his hands and she's probably wondering when the baby sitter is going to come back and take him away. She looks like his big sister sitting down next to him. She can barely look him in the eyes because she doesn't want him to kiss her. He, on the other hand, can't sit still. She's probably wondering at this point whether she still needs to go to dinner with this guy. It's awkward, and I kind of feel bad for Michael. He's not a bad guy - he's funny, sweet and energetic - he's just on a different planet than Jillian, but that doesn't mean he's a jerk. Just not for her.
Jillian, however, actually has some very nice things to say about Michael. I am impressed that she could still be open minded enough to want to know more about him. She must have figured out by now that they are not very compatible in terms of a long term, serious relationship. They go to dinner with tons of champagne bottles around them and learn how to saber, or knock the top off of one.
Meanwhile, back in the Fairmont Whistler suite, there's a knock on the door and a date card. Wes, Robby, Kiptyn, Tanner, Ed, Jake, Reid and Mark are chosen to go on the group date. The card says, "Let's call it a snow day." Jesse gets the one on one. He looks 450% better without a hat on, btw.
Back on the date with Michael, Jillian has some tough questions for him. "I am a cheesy ass, helpless romantic, fall in love if a girl kisses me on the mouth kind of guy," says Michael. He pauses in between each word, which adds an extra effect on this unique self-description. Jillian asks Michael why he signed up for the show. Michael says he broke up with someone 8 months ago and he literally has not been on a date since then. He said he felt like this was fate and that he really underestimated how fast he got attracted to (Jillian). He is 100% sure that he is there for the right reasons. I believe him. But I also think there is no way she can find him as husband material at this particular point in time.
Jillian takes the rose and I am just waiting for her to say that she thinks the timing is wrong for them, but she shocks me by keeping him around. She says that he makes her laugh a lot and gives him the rose!! He tries to kiss her on the lips, and she hugs him in return, in a babysitter hugging a child kind of way. I like that neither one of them have forced themselves on the other at this point, they are definitely taking it on the slow side - lots of hugs and laughs, but nothing really more than that brewing on Jillian's side at least. I'm not sure whether she's picking him because she already knows who she's kicking out or because she trusts him. Either way, Michael is a nice guy, and there's nothing wrong with keeping around a nice guy who makes you laugh.
Meanwhile, the guys back in the house wonder who the mystery man with a girlfriend is. Wes is peering over the railing and listening in on the guys' conversations in a scary manner. You almost wonder if he's going to throw his guitar down at them or tie and gag them if they accuse him of being the villain.
The group date begins with lots of sunglasses and snowmobiling. Jillian picks Robby to ride with and the rest of the guys have to double up. They go through the beautiful snow covered mountains and Jillian stops to have some alone time with Robby. Robby has horrible helmut marks on his forehead as he confesses to being really mad at the last rose ceremony - he apologizes for this. It's hard to take him seriously with that forehead red mark. The guys are all bashing Robby - saying he's too young, he's not ready for a real relationship, etc. Jillian trusts him, though, and says she can tell that he's really into her.
Tanner comes up to Jillian and interrupts Robby's alone time with Jillian. He still won't tell her that it's Wes who has a girlfriend. He says she should keep her eyes open and she'll figure it out.
Next is Wes's turn with Jillian - he starts discussing his new CD coming out. Jillian asks whether he came on the show to promote his music. He denies it, sweet talks her, says that everyone knows what he does for a living. Jillian is smitten. "If he had a girlfriend, I'm pretty sure I would know," she says. Meanwhile, you can hear the thousands of people screaming at their TVs all over the country and up into Canada during this scene - "NOOOO, Jillian! He has a girlfriend...he's just there to promote his music!!" ABC is really setting him up to be a bad guy - I wonder if we'll ever see him confess to anything - although the coming attractions for next week showed Wes mentioning something about coming on the show to promote his music. Who knows if this is edited or not. Wes thinks they have communicated adequately and hopefully it was enough to "seal the deal at the rose ceremony..." - and get a few more opportunities at singing that Jillian song.
It's now night time and they all start doing shots outside on a snow bar while Jillian is trashed and starts dancing on the bar. She jumps into Ed's arms and then steals Kiptyn away for some alone time. She is really trying to figure out who the two-timing loser is.
Kiptyn is so adorable. He has such natural chemistry with her. He wants to know what is on
her mind. I love watching The Boyfriend watch the two of them kiss and say that they like each other. He smiles at them and clearly approves, it's actually more entertaining to watch The Boyfriend watch Jillian and Kiptyn in a lovey-dovey moment than to actually watch the show. Jillian says, "I'm looking at Kiptyn and I can't even process what he's saying cause he's so cute." The Boyfriend is surprised by their intense kissing and screams out, "Woah, lick the inner mouth!" about Kiptyn's kissing style.
Back on the date, Reid gets some alone time. He says he wants to have a family, kids and an adventurous life style. Then he tells Jillian he loves the way she smells. Like snow and flowers and GASOLINE?? Huh? Reid then starts naming multiple guys in the house that have girlfriends (in a joking manner) and also says that he has multiple wives. Funny. I like him. They also seem to have a natural chemistry.
Ed and Jake sit by a fire together. Ed seems withdrawn from the other guys - he had a conference call with his boss that morning saying that he could lose his job if he continues to stay out in la-la land. This work thing is driving him crazy. Poor guy. Nobody wants to be unemployed in this market. Jillian gives the rose to Ed. She also gives him the option of holding on to it for the rest of the week and deciding whether or not he wants to keep it. At the end of the date, they all go candlelit sledding which looks incredible. More squeaking from Jillian as she goes down the mountain.
Jesse is pumped for his one on one date. They are taking a ski plane to land on a glacier. The plane has 6 empty seats, and the two of them are sitting together in one seat. That's pretty cute.
They stare out the window and the cheesy, romantic Bachelorette music is cued in (is this the only romantic music they have for this show? Come on, ABC, time to get a new soundtrack. I'd take the music from Titanic over this.) They land on a big beautiful glacier. It's like an enormous perfect snow day - with endless amounts of fresh powder to throw at each other, make snow angels, etc. They are all dressed in snow gear and just play in the snow all day. I like the itinerary on this date: Go play in the snow. It could have been either completely awesome or really awkward. Can you see Juan playing in the snow? Michael would have built a snow man and given it boobs. Anyhow, Jesse and Jillian ("J + J" as they later draw in the snow) are tackling each other. Jillian tells him that this is the coolest thing she has ever done in her life. Jesse starts spilling a little about his feelings for Jillian. He says that he would remember her for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, it seems that it's all downhill from here. How do you top a date on top of a glacier? They kiss and reflect on this perfect snow date.
It's dinner time and the two of them get changed. Jillian's purple top is really cute. She's got the signature Jillian scarf. Jillian sits with Jesse by a fire, and asks him about his ex and whether he is ready to be in a serious relationship so soon after it's ended. Jesse said that it wasn't the right time for him and his ex. He broke up with her 6 months ago and does not talk to her anymore. Jillian wants to have kids when she's 33. Jesse is concerned that Jillian does not want to move out of Vancouver but she says she'd be up for moving to the city of the guy she chooses. He's enthralled with her voice and says someone could listen to her and fall asleep. He finds her voice "arousing," whereas Jillian thinks her voice sounds like nails on a blackboard.
Jillian strips down to her bikini, Jesse does too and they go into a candlelit hot tub. They sip champagne and reflect on their incredible day. She gives him the rose and the making out in the hot tub begins. "I'm gleaming, I'm glowing, I won't be able to sleep tonight. If I die tomorrow, I'd be ok with it..." says Jesse. Wow, he's falling hard. There seem to be some major contenders left in this pool of men. It's confusing. Jesse has a more laid back approach with Jillian than some of the other men. He talks about his feelings but is not very aggressive physically with her like Kiptyn and Reid are.
Ed has been doing some serious thinking and wants to talk to Jillian. She meets him in a private room somewhere. Ed says he is attached to her but he has to leave. He spoke to his boss again. He realizes that he is letting her down, but he'd be letting 6 or 7 people down if he didn't leave. Jillian says to him, "Promise me that when you find the person you're crazy about, don't let work get in the way." He asks to keep the rose but doesn't really give her a good reason why. He just says he doesn't want anybody else to have it. Is this because he wants to come back? That he wants to have a party favor for his time on the show? I don't really get it. Ed says this is one of the toughest things in his life. He says he could have seen himself falling in love with her and marrying her. He says he is really sad to go. I feel for him, but at the same time, they have
only been on the show for less than 4 weeks - and is it tougher to say goodbye to a new love interest or lose your job in this economy in that time frame? It's a tough call. Jillian takes some alone gondola time and is clearly heartbroken. It's very rare that a bachelor or a bachelorette chooses to leave the show on their own. I still respect Ed's decision. He was a real contender, but it just shows that he's a real person. Real people have real commitments in this world. They can't just run off the planet for several months with no repercussions. Not many people can. There's nothing wrong with not deciding in a manner of weeks that Jillian is worth giving up a job for - probably where other people are depending on him to get work done. Jillian says she misses Ed already. I'll miss Ed. I think The Boyfriend will miss Ed. But hey, if things don't work out with whoever she chooses, perhaps Jillian can seek him out - if her pride isn't hurt too badly.
BTW, where has Jake been this episode? And that Mark guy that she liked so much, that she booted Mike from New City for? They're total back burners right now. Even Tanner got more camera time this episode than Jake or Mark combined. Yikes.
Jillian is still clearly upset that Ed is gone. She's very emotional - tears welling up in her eyes. Chris points out that she's more worked up now that Ed left than she was when Jason dumped her. Good point, Chris. I'm equally more upset that Ed's gone than I was when Jason dumped Jillian. He then asks her about some of the other remaining men, and she basically says that none of the guys are safe, but she is thrilled with Wes and Robby. Again, the audience is groaning (at least about Wes). At the end of their conversation, Jillian announces she doesn't want to have a cocktail party and wants to go straight to the rose ceremony. To the point. I like how she works.
Chris tells the guys (as they are lined up in rose ceremony formation) that the cocktail party is not happening. They don't look remotely surprised. Jillian arrives in a sparkling pewter gown and crazy dangling earrings. Roses go to: Reid (he's adorable, and she's into him), Kiptyn (love him), Robby (his helmut mark cleared up, thankfully), Jake (he's too perfect not to pick), Tanner (foot fetish advances once again), and Wes (booooooooooo). Um, so Mark goes home. The Boyfriend thinks that it's because he didn't tuck his shirt in. Mark thinks he was let go because he didn't let his barrier down.
Next week - a romantic journey - Tanner gets down to his tighty whities. Looks like one of the guys has an overnight date with Jillian and suffers some physical problems in the bedroom. Wow, I don't think we've seen that before on the show. Is it the alcohol? Does another guy decide that he's rather keep his job over hanging out with Foot Fetish and a breakdancer for another week? Hmmm. We'll just have to wait.
I'm very sad to see Ed go. I saw him as one of the finalists - and a possible dark horse winner. Now it's getting more clear as to who is going to make it all the way. We know that ABC would not want to make the "winner" look bad, so at some point Wes and Tanner P have got to go. Too much skepticism has been surrounding Robby, so I'm guessing he won't get very far. That leaves us with Jake (too perfect for Jillian), Kiptyn (most definitely a finalist), Reid (a very likely finalist), Jesse (could be final 3 for him), and Michael (from his age and personality alone, he should have been cut much earlier, but he's a nice guy who really genuinely likes Jillian so it's ok that he's still around). I have to say - she's got some really awesome choices despite the few, not so awesome guys on this season.
Who do you think will be Jillian's top 3 choices? Is this the last we've seen of Ed? Do you smile when you see Jillian and Kiptyn kissing like The Boyfriend does? Let's hear your comments!

Jason & Molly, Still Going Strong...
Yes, everyone's most talked about couple from a couple months ago, Jason and Molly, are still together. From Jason's blog, you can check out updates on their relationship. Jason recently went to visit Molly for her father's surprise 60th birthday party. On that trip, they passed through Chicago where they stayed with Jason's cousin, Fred. Do you guys remember Fred? He was on the DeAnna season and was one of Jason's bunkmates. I didn't know they were cousins. I don't think they told us that. I wonder if this is the same Fred that is/was dating Noelle. Hmmmm.
Also on their trip, they hung out with spray tanned Barbie, otherwise known as Natalie. Remember Natalie? She went on a more than uncomfortable date with Jason where she told him that she likes bears. How could we forget her? It's nice to know that they could still be friendly enough to hang out.
Anyhow, here's the latest on Jason and Molly from his blog: http://www.jasonsplace.com/category/jason-molly/

Plus Size Bachelor?
Looks like the produce of The Bachelor/Bachelorette, Mike Fleiss, has created yet another (hopefully) entertaining reality dating show. This time - a plus sized male will have curvy, full figured women competing for his love in a Bachelor like format. Premiere date is July 28th. Could be interesting. Will you watch?
A Funnier and Happier Jillian
Check out this interview with Jillian from earlier this week. She says some really interesting things in it - and based on how she says it, I am guessing she has found love at the end of this show. I don't think she's engaged, but I do think they are happily dating - that's my guess. In this interview, Jillian talks about her time with her friends that she was playing croquet with (what?? croquet??). After her croquet time, her friends called her to say that she's always been really funny and had a lot of energy, but that she's even funnier and seems so much happier in a way that's different now. Interesting.
Check it out for yourself...
Oh and if you're looking for any of Jillian's clothes this season, it sounds like her favorite stores are Aritzia (where she got the Vancouver 2010 Olympics sweatshirt), Forever 21, Theory, Alice + Olivia and Nicole Miller (the last two designers is where she got her dresses from).

The Bachelorette is affecting Vancouver sales
Seems like The Bachelorette is not only a great venue for love - it's a tourism advertisement, especially for the city of Vancouver. Check out this interesting article - which will also tell you where you can buy that adorable Vancouver 2010 hoodie that Jillian wore on the curling date:

Mike Emailed Last Night
He said he really appreciates all of your support and kind words. The Boyfriend and I have offered to take him out for a drink, so hopefully we can make that happen. He seems like a class act all the way. I hope something good comes out of this for him.

Episode 4: Searching for Those True Colors
Welcome back, Bachelorette Fans. What a crazy night! There are just 13 guys left. Chris the Host comes by the bunk house to tell the guys that this week, there are 3 dates: a group date, a 1 on 1 date and a 2 on 1 date where one person gets the boot immediately. They are all off to Vancouver. While Chris reveals this information, Robby looks absolutely ridiculous wearing a top hat and glasses. Is he going to tap dance for us? Kiptyn is wearing the same baseball blue t-shirt that The Boyfriend wears. So cute. The guys are psyched to be off to Vancouver and out of the bunk house "forever," says Chris. This must mean that they are not coming back and the remainder of the dates are abroad. Interesting.
The guys arrive at The Fairmont Vancouver Hotel. I learned earlier today that one of our blog readers, Joanne from Vancouver, has a son whose girlfriend works there. We're trying to get the scoop from her on what went on during the guys' stay. Vancouver looks like an amazing city. The home of the 2010 Winter Olympic games, there seems to be tons of outdoorsy type stuff to do, beautiful scenery and loads of places to just walk around. The limo pulls up with all of the guys and Jillian squeaks with excitement. The guys get to stay in the penthouse of the hotel, a 3 bedroom, 3 bath suite.
Juan thinks he can really shine on a 1 on 1 date with Jillian and "really come out of his skin." I would hate to see Juan come out of his skin because that would be disgusting and he'd end up looking like a specimen at the Bodies exhibit, but actually, maybe this would improve his chances with Jillian. Too bad for him, because Kiptyn gets the 1 on 1. The clue says: "Kiptyn, let's cook up some love, Vancouver style." Yeahhhh the crowd goes wild. They are all so jealous.
Jake makes an interesting comment: "Finally a girl that likes the nice guys." He obviously considers himself a nice guy along with Kiptyn. I'd say the other nice guys in the house are most likely Mike from New City, Ed, and Reid. We have seen less than 5 minutes with Jesse and Mark (I didn't even know who they were before tonight, so it's hard to judge them yet, though we will).
Jillian is so excited to spend the day with Kiptyn. She squeaks again running toward him. She's wearing an adorable olive green spring coat, a pretty bright red/pink scarf and Ugg boots. She looks very casually put together. As does the Kipper. They are clearly smitten with each other as they walk along. Jillian announces they will be kayaking to Granville Island Public Market - to pick up some food to make dinner. If you see the easy chemistry between them throughout the date, you might as well send everybody else home. Except for Wes, who she clearly likes more than she should, but eventually she'll see his true colors (here's hoping). Jilli and the Kipster race in their kayaks and they make an attempt at a strange kiss when their boats bump up against each other. Here's a tongue twister. Can you say, "Keep up, Kiptyn and Kiss me in the Kayak" 10 times fast?
They get to the market and pick out food together and start making out in the lemon aisle. Who knew grocery shopping could be so romantic? If they like the lemon aisle, I wonder what happened in the frozen section. They could have thrown a dead fish into their faces and these two still would have made out.
Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Juan and Reid are sitting on a red couch bitching about the competition. They all complain that Dave is wrong for Jillian. Are these guys not allowed to leave the penthouse? Are they chained to their suites? It seems like such a shame to be in such a great city and be cooped up in a hotel (though I'm sure it's a very nice hotel).
Back to the date, Kiptyn likes the chemistry between him and Jillian. He tells her that he does some charity work for children in San Diego. She loves hearing this and agrees that giving back is something she would like to do more of. They are immediately affectionate with each other and start feeding pigeons. They have the beginning pieces of being best friends that could lead to something more. Does anybody else love the way that Kiptyn's ears stick out slightly when he's saying something poignant? It's adorable.
Kiptyn and Jillian go back to what is the equivalent of Jason's fake boat house on last season. I don't think it's her real home - more like a rented house with cool furnishings, perfect for romantic lighting. They cook dinner and flirt together. He gets behind her while she's mixing something and this is apparently a huge turn on for her. Just look at her expression in this photo! She can barely contain herself. She is clearly getting more and more tipsy by the minute. One of her comments is a clear testament to her alcohol intake:
"Every girl's dream is to be in the kitchen..." stop right there. There's no "every girl's dream" and "being in the kitchen" that should ever fall in the same thought. She apparently likes fussing over being nervous to impress a guy with her food and then having said guy come up from behind her and nibble on her neck. Kind of a strange thought, but Kiptyn has done his job here, and that's a good thing. I still like him a lot.
After a couple more glasses of wine, they are clearly drunk and start telling each other their passions. Kiptyn tells the story of how he came to be on the show. He wanted to go pursue a girl as opposed to allowing the girls to choose him. He tells this to her and they make out.
Back at the penthouse, we find out who is going on the group date: it's Jesse, Tanner, Jake, Robby, Wes, Ed, Michael, Reid, Juan and Dave. The Boyfriend turns to me at this point and goes, "Who the hell is Jesse?" My thoughts exactly.
That means the 2 on 1 is going to Mark and Mike from New City!
Back to the longest Kiptyn date ever, Jillian gets the rose and gives Kip a little speech. The alcohol wants to take over, but she holds it together and gives it to him. He says he thinks he is lucky to be there. Classy guy. She curls into him - they relax. She kisses him goodbye and has a very cute moment where she dances after she shuts the door and smiles a little. That was almost like a movie scene. Very cute. It's exactly what I would have done after a great first date with a guy like Kiptyn (or The Boyfriend).
It's a new day and the group date starts. They are going curling. Curling is basically a cross between shuffleboard and bowling, but with a rock, some ice and no pins. They throw this rock down 50 yards of ice and the sweepers speed it up or slow it down until it lands on a desired area.
The guys split up into two teams and the winning team gets to continue on with the date that evening with Jillian. Michael the Child is screaming throughout the competition like a freshman frat boy during hell week. The only reason he is still around is because he is in his element with all the other guys around. This whole experience is him reliving his days in his fraternity. What's not to love? There's booze everywhere, a hot girl and the company of lots of dudes. He's Captain Frat Boy.
Jesse throws down a great rock and this will probably seal the win. After his turn is over, he does a ridiculous butt dance. Michael seems to envy Jesse's luck a little too much. Michael has the last turn to beat the other team. "I just, like, want to date the girl," says Michael. His attempt is unsuccessful. Jesse the Wine Maker is pumped that he won for his team. Reid consoles himself by rationalizing that Jillian would probably rather hang out with them, rather than Juan, David, etc. Turns out, he's probably right.
The red team gets to go on a beautiful old historic boat with Jillian. We get yet another squeak /scream from Jillian as she pops the champagne on the boat. I would love it if the wind knocked off Jesse's white, newsboy, unnecessary cap. All of the guys get into the dining room and the chef dumps some crabs on the table. If any of them get boat sick, those crabs probably put them over the edge. Jillian takes Jake off for some one on one time. I immediately feel a bit awkward watching them talk. The intensity of their first date is hard to match and some time has passed where Jillian has made out with other guys. Jake's recap of their date makes it that much more awkward, "It made my night. Well, it made my life." She says that he seems perfect. Jake thinks he's far from perfect. She keeps telling him to be whoever he is. Later on, we see that he is insulted by this comment and calls her out on it. They didn't kiss during this alone time, which may be a bad sign. Turns out, Jake IS perfect. Doesn't look like Jillian wants that. Jake - come to New York, there are plenty of girls I know who are looking for you.
Jillian then spends time in a bedroom on the boat with Jesse. Her body language is much different with him than with Jake. Have we missed something? Is this their first alone time for more than 2 minutes? Jesse is doing most of the talking here, as opposed to Jillian needing to talk. He flatters her with kindness. Says the Boyfriend, "What's up with his stupid hat?" They have their first kiss on the bed together. Their kiss is kind of strange and frog like.
At last - the moment we are waiting for -- Dave gets some alone time with Jillian. She's looking for his soft side. She'll be looking for a while. He tells her about how great her ass is in spandex. "Her ass is fantastic...her ass is hot...you never look at your ass in the mirror? You're a liar.." Wow, ways to flatter a woman. Just ask Dave. Thank goodness, Jillian finally starts to pick up on what a creep this guy is. True colors are flying everywhere.
The best part is when Dave moves in for a kiss and gets rebuffed. Meanwhile they cut to Jillian saying that she needs to be with a guy that respects her. She looks really upset. And she's wearing the gold sparkly dress we see her wearing at the rose ceremony - not her current outfit she's wearing on the group date. ABC's messing with us - she did not say this comment with respect to Dave, it was edited in out of context. Meanwhile, Dave makes the brilliant decision to tell Jillian that he's never been turned down for a kiss. Because a great way to get a girl to kiss you is to tell her that she has competition. He thinks that Jillian is into him and that she's holding back, challenging him and testing him. Um, no, Dave, she's scared of you.
Jillian gives the rose to Jesse and the other boys clap and say "atta boy, Jesse." Um what? You're cheering? As if they're excited that anybody other than themselves got the rose. Side note: looks like they are drinking Labatt's Blue beer. It's awesome and Canadian.
We see the other two guys in their underwear getting ready for their 2 on 1 date. Mark (who is this guy?) is shaving his face a bit and spikes his hair up like Bart Simpson. Jillian is in an adorable red pea coat and greets them. Mike goes running to her while Mark holds back. Totally awkward for the two of them to be walking with her in the middle on their 3's a crowd date. The three of them get into a little yellow helicopter and fly over the city of Vancouver. Mike sits in the middle, which is kind of odd - wouldn't they put Jillian in the middle? They are flying into mountains with snow on them. Grouse Mountain. They go into a little house at the top of the mountain and there is a table set up for 3 for dinner. Mike makes a toast to Jillian and tells her that he's excited to be there. Mike is very eloquent and can put it out there whereas Mark is sort of an observer on the date.
Mark makes a horrible analogy about him being the quarterback behind an army of men in that he sits back and hides his feelings. Aren't quarterbacks the crutch of a team that everybody depends on? That doesn't seem like Mark's role to me at this point, though we don't know enough about him. Meanwhile, Mike from New City is "hitting it out of the park" says The Boyfriend, which is so appropriate considering he's a baseball camp owner. Go Mike! Go Mike! At this point the only way Mark is getting the rose is if she's just basing it on pure attraction. Jillian has a history of liking the bad guys (Wes, Dave) and seems to like the chase. For that reason alone, I think she might be more drawn to Mark.
She has some one on one time with Mike first. They both say that they are looking for someone to spend the rest of their life with. Meanwhile, it's snowing outside and could not be any more romantic. Mike says some of the sweetest, kindest words that have been said to date on the show. He says, "Out of all of these guys, I might not be the most successful, best looking, smartest, etc. but I will do whatever it takes to take care of you, provide for you..." He then admits to starting to fall in love with her. Jillian recognizes that he is a great guy. He is so sincere - the exact type of person that Jillian came on this show for. This ultimately must mean she doesn't pick him. Only Trista had the sense to pick the nice guy (Ryan) over the challenge (Charlie).
Next, Jilli goes off with Mark, who tells her about his past relationships (that's what every girl wants to hear on a date). He talks about a long distance relationship that failed (Jillian nods and pretends to listen when she's really wondering about his hair and how she can keep her eyes open now that the wine has kicked in). Jillian can relate to his heartbrokenness. She gets him to say what she wants him to say - that he believes he can find love on the show.
Back in the house, the guys are wearing even uglier hats than Jesse and worrying about Jillian. Jillian gives the rose to Mark and then feels terrible about it. Mike couldn't be nicer about it - telling her that she deserves to be happy. He has to take a gondola back down the mountain. Jillian is questioning whether she made the right decision. Given what goes on later on in the show, her doubts are well founded.
Back at the hotel, the guys are shocked that Mike is leaving. Several of them comment on what a nice guy Mike is. I like this guy more and more each week. If you readers out there know somebody in the NY area that would be perfect for Mike, please write in - he actually reads this blog and we should find him a nice girl. He deserves it. What a great catch.
It's the cocktail party and Jillian has some serious make-up on and a sexy little gold dress. Reid takes her away for some one on one time. He indicates that if she moved into the house, she would have a really different view of some of the guys in the house. And so the night begins...
"Wes is here for one reason and that's for his music," says Reid, to a private camera.
Jake also says that Wes is not there for Jillian and hopes that Jillian sees the real side of him. Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde - is what Jake calls Wes. Meanwhile, the guys stare at Wes and Jilli out the window. Tanner screams out "Disgusting!" to them and I'm pretty sure they can hear. Very mature move by Tanner P. At least he wasn't screaming about feet this episode. The term "Country singing turd," gets thrown around by someone, presumably describing Wes. Tanner P says that Wes has a girlfriend back at home that he really likes. Meanwhile, Wes stares at Jillian's boobs as he tells her that he has never cheated on any girlfriend in 32 years. She is smitten. All the guys hate Wes.
Jake and Jillian spend more one on one time together. Jake lets Jillian know that what she said the other night (you can be yourself around me) kind of rubbed him the wrong way. He also indicated that there are some guys there that may not be on the show for the right reasons.
Tanner P is itching to give her the info. He gets her alone and says "There are definitely some guys that you need to know about. I feel like everybody is not here for the right reasons." Tanner tells her that one of the guys has a girlfriend back at home. This is the last straw for Jillian. She says, "It's the rudest possible thing I have ever known in my entire life."
Jillian interrupts the party to confront the guys. She tells them there is a rumor that one of the guys came onto the show with a girlfriend and she's really upset. Then she declares that the party is over. All the guys are demanding that the intruder confess. They stare at each other, curse and the tension mounts.
Jillian goes into the deliberation room and tries to figure out who the jerk is. Chris talks to her and then goes out to the guys with Jillian and says that if they have something to say, they should say it now. The tension continues to mount. Nobody speaks. Then everybody speaks. Tanner looks like he's being tortured and is about to cry. Really he's just upset that he didn't get to see Jillian's feet this episode. All of the guys say that they do not have a girlfriend. Dave suggests that Jillian boots the tattler. Robby curses and says that him and Michael didn't get any one on one time with Jillian tonight and he's f-in pissed. Tanner is extremely upset that Juan keeps looking at him. Juan denies looking at him. This scene is so ridiculous.
The Rose Ceremony proceeds and she picks the following: Reid (there's more brewing here between him and J than they are showing us), Robby (his angry speech hit home with her), Ed (love this guy), Michael (seriously, he's 25, but as single as anything), Wes (oh come on, is everybody screaming in their living rooms at this decision?? If he doesn't have a girlfriend he definitely has an agenda for his country music promotion), Jake (let's get that passion back), and the final rose goes to: Tanner (who is greatly relieved). Adios to Dave and Juan.
Dave's going to be pissed and think that someone ratted him out. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out that he did have a girlfriend all along even though nobody said that about him. Juan plays it off like he doesn't care - he's actually kind of polite and just slips away into the night. Dave does not take this as easily. He whispers "Why?" into her ear. Her response is "I don't know." Dave doesn't get it and walks off angry. Jillian tells the remaining guys that they are going to Whistler.
In the scenes for next week, Michael falls head over heels. Jesse and Jillian hang out on a glacier. It looks like more comes out about which bachelor has a girlfriend and Jillian gets really upset about it. At least Juan and Dave are gone! But I'm going to miss Mike, because he's clearly in it for the right reasons and could have been really good for Jillian.
So there we have it. We're down to the final 10 and we're off to Whistler. Jillian finally had the sense to give the boot to Dave and Juan (phew!) but she also got rid of someone that had all the qualities and character of a person she could be happy with (Mike from New City). How someone like him ends up going home and people like Tanner P foot fetish, Mike the 25 year old breakdancer, and Robby the unemployed bartender end up staying - I still don't get. I really hope this "great judge of character" thing that Chris the Host claims Jillian has kicks in relatively soon because I'm starting to get frustrated.
That said, I still love Ed, Kiptyn, Jake and Reid. Jury is still out on Jesse, his hats, and Mark. What do you think? Are you upset she got rid of Mike in light of how this episode turned out? Do you have any kind words for him? Post them here.
