Green Lantern.
So. yeah. Thought I'd hang back a bit of the Green Lantern trailer, what with everyone else banging on about it, but I guess I'd better add me bitsworth. Seems the trailer has come in for a lot of flak. Criticisms tend to be around the Ryan Reynolds is NOT Hal Jordan and It looks Cheesy and Childish area.
Well, from what I can tell from the few minutes the trailer affords us, Ryan Reynolds is very much Hal Jordan. No, don't bother arguing with me, fanboy. I was reading Green Lantern comics when you were still a wayward paddler in your daddy's nutsack. I'm right. You're wrong. Hal Jordan, at least the Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern comics that I read - you know, the good Green Lantern comics - is the archetype vain, womanising, danger-loving, devil-may-care test pilot. & I reckon Ryan reynolds fits that Hal Jordan fairly perfectly.
Straight up: who wants to watch a Green lantern film about the Denny O'Neil/Neal Adams' touchy-feely caring sharing poe-faced twat Lantern? or, worse yet, the super nazi wet dream Lantern that we got now? Well, you might. But not Joe. No siree.
And as for the cheesy and childish thing: well, why not? really? Does every superhero film have to be The Dark Knight? Grim and gritty works great with Batman ( although, in all fairness, I'm getting a bit bored with that these days, an' all ), but just because it works with Batman, that doesn't mean it's going to work for every other superhero. Look at Superman Returns if you want undeniable proof that dark does not always neccessarily equate with good. Why can't we have a superhero film that's full of colour and fireworks?
&, for the record. . .
Mark Strong looks fucking awesome.
Let's face it: Green Lantern ain't gonna be no earth-shattering greatest-film-ever-made thing, that's for sure, in fact it may even turn out to be one great big old turd-duffer, but right now, as far as your not-so-humble blog chum is concerned, it looks like it's gonna be a whole lotta popcorn-munching kiora-quaffing fun. Which is all I ask of any superhero film.
And, hey. It could be worse. You seen the Thor trailer? Fuck me!!! Now, that blows chunks!
