FALLY FOR SAWA SAWA FESTIVAL

The Sawa Sawa week-end concerts will be staged at the Carnivore Grounds on Saturday 28, May in the evening and Sunday 29, May during the day. Sawa Sawa will feature the ‘main’ concert stage, a (cultural) vending area, food and beverage area, an info market and child activities. The lineup and programming will be (as much as possible) focused on female talent and will be done in such a way that it will cut across audiences of different communities, age, gender, economies and cultures.
On Saturday evening the programming will be geared towards the youth and on Sunday day families will be our focus.
For the lineup Sawa Sawa has booked Congolese maestro Fally Ipupa and Kenyan gospel sensation Daddy Owen and Kenyan poet Wanjiku Mwaura for the Saturday evening. Sauti Sol will headline the Sunday day concert next to The Villagers, Maia, Camp Mulla and a collective of young upcoming female vocalists of Kenya including Neema, Dela, Fenna, Muthoni-Drummer queen, Susan of Gogo Simo ,Rachel and Amelina of TPF, who only came together for this occasion. During both days the Sarakasi All Stars (dancers and acrobats) will be at hand to spice up the festival.

NAVIO RECORDS WITH CANADIAN POP STAR

Uganda’s Hip Hop sensation, Navio of Talent 256 International and ROCKSTAR 4000 has teamed up with Island Def Jam’s Pop/Rock star, Fefe Dobson, on the remix to her hot new single Stuttering.
Stuttering was produced by heavy weight producer J.R. Rottem (Britney Spears, Sean Kingston, Jason Derulo, and Leona Lewis) and since its release the single has been climbing North American singles charts (US Top 40 and Canadian Top 10). It is the 2nd single from her highly anticipated album, Joy, released through 21 Music and Def Jam / Island Records on November 30, 2010 (North America only...rest of the world in 1st Quarter 2011).
The original music video for Stuttering has received over 3 million YouTube views and in January 2011, a remix version ft Navio will be released.



Navio’s unique flow blends seamlessly into the Pop/Rock song and showcases his creative ability. As an artist, he has proven his versatility...in addition to Fefe Dobson, Navio has showcased his ability on the AIRTEL ONE8 group’s hit single, Hands Across the World, that was written and produced by R Kelly and ROCKSTAR 4000 / SONY MUSIC featuring R Kelly, Navio, 2Face, Fally Ipupa, 4X4, Movaizhaleine, Amani, JK and Ali Kiba.

Fefe Dobson is a pop/rock singer signed to 21 Music and Def Jam / Island Records. She is managed by music mogul Chris Smith, whose efforts have launched the international careers of stars such as Nelly Furtado, Brick and Lace, and Tamia. Fefe was born in Toronto, Ontario...her mother is of English, Native Canadian, French ancestry and her father is of Jamaican. Before being signed, she admitted to being stereotyped as contemporary R&B or pop singer instead of a rock musician due to her race, often being compared to Brandy and Britney Spears.

BEN AFFLECK WANTS TO MAKE MOVIE ABOUT CONGO

With the success of DRC Congo’s star singer Fally Ipupa during the MAMAs, now Oscar-winning screenwriter, actor, director and now Africa advocate Ben Affleck wants to make a movie about the troubled eastern Democratic Republic of Congo but has found no Hollywood taker yet.
"I would love to make a movie about Congo, but unfortunately Hollywood folks claim that nobody wants to see a movie about Africa," said Affleck, who earlier this year founded the Eastern Congo Initiative (ECI) advocacy group.



Affleck was speaking after launching a report by his advocacy group, which calls for the United States to lead an international effort to bring stability to the troubled eastern Congo or risk the Great Lakes region becoming "another failure of humanity."
The Congo was riven by devastating back-to-back wars that began in the 1990s and ended early this century after claiming some 3.5 million lives.
Affleck directed, wrote and co-starred in bank heist movie "The Town" and has a slew of awards to his name, including a 1998 Oscar for the screenplay of "Good Will Hunting." He is among a growing number of stars who use their celebrity to raise awareness of global crises.

P-UNIT FOR TZ'S “ROAD TO MAMAS”

P-Unit, Fally Ipupa and Joh Makini are set to storm Dar es Salaam’s Maisha Club for another breathtaking edition of the Road to MAMA, the whirlwind party tour brought to you by MTV base and Zain.
Head down to Maisha Club in Dar es Salaam on Friday 19 November for a mesmerizing evening of Africa’s finest urban beats, starring music giants from across the Continent. Alongside Fally Ipupa; P-Unit and Joh Makini, the DJs ripping it up on the decks will include local heroes DJ PQ and DJ Steve B, while MTV VJ Vanessa Mdee will be presiding masterfully over the proceedings as MC.



Part of a pan-African musical celebration, Road To MAMAs - Tanzania is one of two thrilling Road To MAMA events building up to the third edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain, which takes place in Lagos on 11 December 2010. The Road To MAMAs tour will also visit the DRC on Saturday 27 November.
Speaking about the show, Sam Ellangaloor, Zain Tanzania’s Managing Director, said; “The choice of Dar-es-Salaam as a venue of one of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain’s two pre-event shows is an indication of the positive impact that our local music genres such as Bongo are having in the continent. Zain Tanzania and MTV Networks Africa will work around the clock to ensure that this will be a showpiece event.”
Making his first Road To Mama appearance, Fally Ipupa is one of the DRC’s most exciting music exports, thanks to his silky-smooth voice, songwriting skills and larger–than-life personality. Ipupa, who will also be performing at the MAMAs in Nigeria, is nicknamed Dicap La Merveille (DiCaprio the marvellous) by his Congolese fans and has gained an international following for his infectious blend of soukous, ndombolo, pop and R&B. Joining Ipupa will be Kenyan hip hop trio, P-Unit and local spinners DJ Steve B (well known to music fans via his Clouds FM radio show XXL) and DJ PQ.
Doors at Maisha Club will be open from 8pm, with the party scheduled to go through to the next morning. Tickets will be available on the door at Maisha Club and cost 20,000 TSH.

KENYA’S AMANI TO JOIN SUPER 8 PAN AFRICAN GROUP

SONY music affiliate record label Rock 4000 is putting together a super African music group called One8 and from what I heard in the corridors of the entertainment industry, Amani could well be joining the fray.
Among the acts chosen for the project is Ugandan rapper Navio who is joined by R&B star JK from Zambia, Bongo Flava King Ali Kiba from Tanzania, Ghana's 4 by 4 and Paris based hip-hop duo from Gabon called Movaizhaleine. All these artists who are very talented and popular in their home countries will come together to form the super group One8.
The word on the street is that they will work on a major collaboration and will go round the continent on a tour of the eight countries joined by an international artiste. Big tings I tell you.
So far, the latest act to be signed is DRC’s acclaimed sex symbol, singer and songwriter Fally Ipupa has been revealed as the sixth member of the much-talked about growing phenomenon, ONE8. This leaves two vacant spaces to be occupied by Nigeria and Kenya, before the international top act that would join the African music supergroup to create the buzzing hit song is revealed.
