After seeing tonight's episode of The Bachelor (my full post will be up tomorrow night), we finally got to see one of the most highly anticipated first one on one dates in Bachelor history: Brad and Emily.
Described as "drop dead gorgeous" with the "soul of Mother Teresa," Emily is pretty darn perfect. Throw in the tragic story of her ex-fiance's death and the little five year old girl she is raising on her own - how can you not fall in love with her?
But let's look at this outside of The Bachelor universe. Emily is 24 years old. That is a 14 year age difference between her and Brad. Yes, she has a child, so pushes Emily into a forced maturity beyond her years, but is it enough to make up for such a large age gap? Emily has not had another serious relationship since the death of her ex fiance. Does she seem ready to dive into the next one with Brad? Is that really a smart risk when Emily's five year old daughter is a factor?
Some of you have commented that Brad is old enough to be her father. That's not quite right. Because he was only 14 years old when she was born. At best, he was old enough to babysit her and change her diapers but he's more like a younger uncle to her, than a father.
The good news is that she honestly does not seem to be looking for a Hollywood lifestyle despite certainly having the looks to pursue a modeling or acting career. Although by the end of this season she's going to have those opportunities, or Brad as a fiance or the spot secured as the next Bachelorette.
So what do you think? Can they make this work? Or is the age difference too much?
