Tonight's episode of The Bachelorette has the potential to make or break the season. For one, the last 2 episodes have been a bit lackluster in terms of the viewers being sold on Ashley Hebert as a captivating protagonist to cheer for in her quest for true love. For another, there seems to be almost nothing exciting happening (besides a trip to Thailand) since Bentley departed. So the fact that he's returning tonight begs us to ask the question: What does he want with Ashley if he was never interested in her to begin with and will Bentley's return make the show more or less watchable than it already is?
Some potential responses to this:
(a) Bentley has decided to come back and beg Ashley for another chance and to stick him back into the line-up. If this is the case, it's not for any change of heart that Bentley has. He is a bad boy. Ashley has already told us in her blog posts that "unfortunately, this is not the last we see of Bentley." If Bent came back, tail between his legs, and apologized to Ashley for his behavior to date, admitted that he did not have good intentions but has suddenly determined he is in love with her and wants another shot and Ashley was still dumb enough to fall for this and things worked out great for them (each one of these things is absolutely ludricous), Ashley would not be dreading showing Bentley's return. This would CERTAINLY make the show more watchable if you really hate Ashley, but those cheering for a happy ending would squirm in their seats for the rest of the season or stop watching cold turkey.
(b) Bentley comes back to announce he was never interested in Ash, tells her to get over it, and oh wait, he's going to be on Bachelor Pad. A likely scenario, but why he would fly to Thailand to tell her this, who knows, unless it was a free trip sponsored by The Bachelorette. This would definitely make the show less watchable as Bentley would still go home, the drama would be done and Ashley would be a mess.
(c) The producers tell Ashley that Bentley is back. And they tell her why. Chris Harrison finally has the good sense to break the news to Ashley that she's weeping over NOBODY and shows her footage of Bentley's horrific commentary on Ashley. Then they bring Bentley back so that Ashley could confront him. Why he would come back to get scorned by Ashley is questionable - perhaps it was part of his contract in getting on Bachelor Pad 2. This would make for a great dramatic episode. It would also regain the viewers' trust in the show - sticking up for Ashley and coming down hard on the bad guy instead of just making Ashley look like a fool. This would also allow for Ashley to have a clear head as she pursues the remaining guys. Hopefully this scenario can get played out tonight. This is the last I want to hear Ashley utter the name "Bentley" in any sense.
Hope you all had a very nice weekend, including a fun Father's Day. The Husband stayed at home with an injured back - the result of trying some new lifting exercises. I spent the day with my parents, sister, brother in law, 4 nephews and my SWF (Scottish Work Friend) who brought her newborn baby girl for the day. It was quite exhausting, but a lot of fun.
