Love is in the air, Bachelorette Fans! As many of you may have read by now, I am officially engaged to be married. Details to come, but just know - "The Boyfriend" is now "The Fiance." Thanks so much for all of your sweet comments. We look forward to sharing details of our wedding as they unfold. Stay tuned!
We're back from a long 4th of July weekend, ready to rock (with my new rock). Hope you guys all did something fun. One person wrote in that they would understand if I wanted to take tonight off from writing my recap. But typing is so much more fun with some new bling - so here we go!
Tonight's episode begins in Madrid, Spain. Jillian is wandering the streets in more dangling earrings and ponders the 4 remaining men. ABC is trying to kill time by really selling these last 4 guys to us. First we get a 10 minute recap of Kiptyn, his 8 or 10 pack, good looks, frightening mother and her plastic surgery, Kip's charm and how Jilli's feelings are very strong for him. Next we hear about Reid and how their relationship moved slow at first, that they are opposites, and how his family helped seal her strong feelings for him. It's not really clear how they are opposites except that he's quirky, Jewish and she may not be either of these things.
Next comes career minded Ed. He's handsome, but a workaholic. He leaves the show for his job, returns and now Jillian is worried about whether he can make her a priority. Then there's Wes, the badboy country guy, that Jillian has always wanted to be with. He's "had many women" (that is so straight from Dirty Dancing - as Baby asks Jonny if he's "had many women."). "Wes is far far from perfect, but there is something about him that I have a connection with..." says Jillian. At this point, there's not a person on the planet who trusts this guy. He's got sleaze oozing out of him.
"Everything about Kiptyn is what every mother would want her daughter to marry, " says Jillian who thinks he may be out of her league. Why does she think this?? She's the BACHELORETTE. Nobody is out of her league. Doesn't she realize that competition is what brings things to a head? The Bachelorette is all about finding love, but is also happens to be
about having more chemistry, more charm, more charisma and more personality than your competitors, developing a deep relationship in minimal time, making sure your family doesn't embarrass you, and getting those crucial one on one dates. Kiptyn and Jillian walk around Madrid. Jillian tells Kiptyn that she loved his family and that his mom was a "doll." That's not hard to believe - as I don't think that any part of her face actually moved when she talked. She could very well have been a doll. Kiptyn's sisters ask whether he'd be ready to propose. He says that it's going really well, but that he thought a "proposal seems far off." UGH. You can almost hear the disappointment music playing in the background. Jillian's disappointment is palpable.
Jillian discusses her feelings on getting engaged to the camera. "Would you normally get engaged this quick? -- No... but it's about falling in love and taking a leap of faith." I dunno, Jills. If Kippy isn't feeling it now, it's not looking good for several weeks from now if that's when you want a proposal by. You can tell that Jillian is a bit reserved around Kiptyn - almost as one might be around someone they have a crush on. It's not really a chummy relationship at this point - it's more butterflies and Jillian trying to read him. As for a proposal, there's nothing wrong with falling in love and getting to know each other in the real world before making a big decision. If I was demanding proposals from The Fiance a couple of weeks into us dating, I would have been sorely disappointed. Letting things run their natural course is definitely a good thing.
Jillian and the Kipper walk into a dance studio where Maria and Ricardo teach them a few Flamenco dance steps. They change into traditional Spanish Flamenco costumes and hug each other. They look like they are ready to do the Pase Doble from Dancing with the Stars, but unfortunately do not dance or look like Gilles Marini. They do their dances on stage and you can tell Kiptyn is painfully uncomfortable, but at least he's having a lot of fun. "Flamenco and me should never hang out again," says Kiptyn. He just wants to make out with her so he doesn't have to dance. I love when he lifts her up and carries her off the stage effortlessly. He's a fit dude.
Jillian loves to squeal when she greets her men. It's slightly pig squealish, but I suppose it's flattering to the object of the squeal. In a bright yellow skirt, Jillian agrees to go for a moped ride with the Kipster. They start driving through the streets of Madrid. It looks like a fairytale with the cobblestone streets and colorful buildings around them. They come to a restaurant with a private table for a two. Kiptyn says that in putting on his Flamenco clothes, he couldn't get his zipper shut. Are we supposed to be impressed by this? Jillian says he may be at risk for hurting "the boys." When did ABC become so risque???
They get snails delivered to them and they clearly don't like them, downing wine to hide the taste. Jillian is sitting on a chair that says "Springteen" on it, which is kind of perfect. She is like a spring teen around Kiptyn. It's almost like watching a freshman have a conversation with the homecoming king. Jillian seems to be trying a new technique on Kiptyn. She is drilling him with questions like his mother must have done his whole life. They get the "fantasy suite" card handed out. Holy cow, Viewers. For the first time in Bachelor/Bachelorette History - she rejects the opportunity to "stay as a couple overnight" in the fantasy suite!!!! HOLY COW. She rejects it because she's not ready to spend the night with him. They have tons of kissing and by the end of the night, Kiptyn is saying he could see Jillian as being someone he could spend his life with. Is this not a brilliant move by Jillian, or what? Now she's got him where she wants him.
Next, in Sevilla, Spain, Jillian, in lots of makeup and another cute outfit, is greeted by an insta-kiss from Reid. "We're going to pick up some wine, some cheeses, some bread, then go to a park and make out," says Jillian. Jillian makes fun of herself for not knowing any Spanish. Meanwhile, the guy at the meat store is looking at the two of them like they are the dumbest people alive. He is so annoyed that they are just laughing and making out in his store.
"Walking through Sevilla with Reid and all of my groceries, I feel like Reid is my boyfriend." Jillian is clearly glowing when she talks about Reid. They're chemistry is very easy together and even the way they tease each other, giggle together and can't keep their hands off of each other speaks volumes. His family loved her and she loved them. While they are eating their food, they start opening up to each other about their feelings for each other.
Sevilla looks gorgeous, btw. It's now night and Jillian has changed into a white cotton strapless dress. Reid is wondering whether he's in love. Jillian wants specifics as to how he feels about her. She says he talks in generalities. Jillian seems to have much more confidence and control in her connection with Reid as opposed to Kiptyn. They sit at a very romantic dinner by water. Reid says he moves slowly with these sorts of things. He says he's very attracted to her and thinks she's smart. Jillian once again declines the fantasy suite with him. I like that Reid says he wants to do whatever Jillian is comfortable with. They are totally teasing and flirting with each other again in a way that's unlike her time with Kiptyn or Wes. Reid expresses that he doesn't like her making out with other guys. He then says one of the funniest lines of the season: "I'm gonna sabotage the other dates." Jillian says she feels like she is falling in love with Reid. "I didn't think I could fall in love with somebody and feel so much like myself." This last line, I think, confirms Reid's place in the final two. He is absolutely glowing happy.
Also in Sevilla, Spain, Jillian has her date with Ed. I wonder if they'll run into Reid while strolling around. Do they lock the guys in their rooms? Ed is ready to let 'er rip. They go on a horse drawn carriage ride. Ed discusses his decision to leave and then return. They have the world's longest and possibly most boring conversation about his feelings on this matter, but it ends in a kiss, so all is well. ABC seems to have found a Spanish alternative for its cheesy
romantic music. Ed and Jill sit down to have a drink at an outdoor cafe, and Jillian asks him about his family. After stating that she really wants to catch Ed up to the other guys, she admits that what she really wants to do is making out with him. And they don't waste any time. At one point, they walk through a fountain and just kiss. It's actually very romantic until you see other people watching them wondering what on earth they are doing. The Fiance says it looks like they are shooting a music video. He also thinks the fountain they are making out in is probably some historic garden that has been preserved for eternity until Jillian and her Ed can't keep their hands off of each other, probably leaving it worthless.
It's night time in Sevilla again and Jilli and Ed are in matching black and white outfits. They walk into a a beautiful old building and have a table set up at the top for drinks and food. Ed asks her what she thinks of moving to Chicago, which she is open to. Ed's got some big shoes to fill after her date with Reid, but he does so really well. His time apart from Jillian seems to have enabled him to realize just how strongly he feels for her. "I think that you and I would grow to really be with each other...I know enough about you to know that you are exactly what I look for...and we could be together for a long long time," says Ed. Could these words be any more magical to Jillian's ears? They seem to cover so much on this one drinks date - Ed's love of kids, moving to Chicago, etc., however, Jillian is still, at first, willing to turn down the fantasy suite with him.
Ed states that having an overnight just means more time together. It doesn't take much convincing, because they go back there and once again can't keep their hands off each other. It's odd, however, that they never look into each other's eyes when they talk about their feelings for one another. Does anybody else notice this? Jillian then makes the decision to have the overnight with Ed, but tells him that they are sleeping with their clothes on. Ed whispers into her ear, "You're my favorite part about Spain." Cute.
For the last date with Wes, Jillian is in Barcelona. Wes is ready to "localize with the people." He thinks because one of his songs did well in Mexico, this means he has a connection with Spanish people. What an idiot. Jillian and Wes's relationship is very different than her relationship with the other three. She seems a little more subdued around him. The two of them go on a bike ride through the city. She is a little worried about his lack of affection around her. "Relationships are all about bend, nothing will break if they can bend...I guess only time will tell," says Wes. HUH? What on earth is he talking about? Is this a country song he's working on? Jillian has a lot of anxiety about what the hell Wes is saying. She's thinks their date is not very romantic. Jillian asks him where they would move if things progressed and they were going to make it work. Wes points out a bird missing a leg and then dumps his beer "by accident." This guy just wants to run back to his hotel where Laurel is probably waiting for him.
It's now night time and Jillian has got LOTS of blush to match her fuchsia strapless maxi dress. Jillian states that there is a clear lack of affection from Wes and she wants to figure out what's going on. Jillian once again brings up the whole girlfriend issue, which he once again denies. She then confronts him on whether he's on the show to promote his music which he admits to initially coming on the show for, but now says he wouldn't be there still if that was the only reason. Jillian's eyes are FINALLY starting to open just a little bit. She wants more affection from him. Wes then defends his lack of affection by saying - he doesn't like that she's with other four guys. "Numero Uno is most important here," says Wes. If there was a way that Jillian could dump him right there and then, I wish she would. Jillian asks him about Laurel. They have a totally awkward conversation about it where he doesn't give her a direct answer. Wes reads the date card inviting them to stay as a couple in the overnight fantasy suite and not surprisingly, he says, "I think we should..." It just became very clear to Jillian that Wes does have something to hide. She finally doesn't trust him.
Jillian killed a peacock, dipped it in black die and wore it to the rose ceremony this evening. At the rose ceremony, before Jillian gets there, Wes says to the other 3 guys, "If it's him (to leave) know that he'll be home having lots of great sex..." Is that with your dog, Wes? Or a human? Wes really is such an ass. Why one of the guys doesn't deck him in the face at this comment, I have no idea. Wes shows up in jeans and a suede jacket. He so knows he's going home. As The Fiance says: "Wes is not an asshole, he's a whole ass."
Roses go to: Ed and Reid
Wes congratulates Kiptyn before the final rose is given out. Kiptyn gets the final rose. No surprise here. Jillian goes to walk Wes out and he wants to say goodbye to the guys first telling them to "Have fun." Usually by the final 4, the guy/girl has fallen hard (last season it was Naomi with the dead dove funeral mom and she was devastated). You can tell Wes is REAL heartbroken. Wes admits in the limo that he's the first to make it to the final 4 with a girlfriend. He's psyched to go home to his dog, band and promote his new single. My question is this: was his family in on it too? Were they all deceiving Jillian? Or did they have a fake break up? Either way, what a creep.
The final three are off to Hawaii! The Fiance and I will have to pay special attention for potential honeymoon spots. There also seems to be some kind of twist coming up. We still have yet to see who is having issues in the bedroom and who is coming back to propose. Very odd. Either way, looks like Reid and Ed are well on their way to becoming the final 2, the Evil Jerk is gone and I am engaged! Life is good.
What did you think of tonight's episode? What are your thoughts on Wes? Will you buy his music? Where did you go on your honeymoon? Good night for now.
