British RnB heartthrob Craig David will join a team of celebrities to trek across the Kaisut Desert in Northern Kenya in aid of Comic Relief, a UK-based charity that runs projects in the country and abroad.
The UK celebrities include Lorraine Kelly, Dermot O'Leary, Ronni Ancona, Olly Murs, Kara Tointon, Nadia Sawalha, Scott Mills and Peter White. They will start their journey over the tough terrain on February 18 and will cover 100km across the barren desert in five days.
They will be leading a caravan of camels, which will be carrying their camping gear and other equipment they need for the journey. The celebrities will meet Kenyans in need of urgent eye care throughout the trek.
A Comic Relief spokeswoman said the team will be highlighting the issue of sight problems and that the money raised will be used to prevent thousands of people in Africa from going blind or contracting eye conditions.
A documentary about the trek will be broadcast on BBC1 in the run-up to Red Nose Day on March 18.
