Scandalous results on American Idol this week! The beautiful, raven haired, talented legend in the making, Pia Toscano, was ousted from Idol last night. I was horrified. Pia is one of my favorites (and apparently everyone else's), but still did not escape elimination. The American public is outraged. People are more disgusted by this result than the possilbity of a US government shutdown if an agreement on the budget can't be reached. Ah, reality tv. Gotta love it. I was bummed because I thought Pia had a real shot of winning the whole thing and was hoping to go to the hometown visits in Queens. Wait, is that what they call the episode where the final 3 contestants visit their hometowns and thousands of people come and completely overwhelm the contestant? Or am I confusing it with the hometown visits episode of Bach? Who cares.
Pia was one of the best female singers this show has ever had. And at age 22, she has quite a career ahead of her. Thankfully she will be touring with the rest of the gang this summer and no doubt will get signed. This is not the last we've heard from her! And if the singing thing doesn't work out (which it will. Pia is the closest thing we've gotten to another Mariah Carey or Celine Dion in a decade), she can always apply to be the next Bachelorette! "Thousands of men in thousands of bars are having a thousands drinks about Pia right now," said Steven Tyler after Pia's performance Wednesday night. Well too bad those thousands of guys weren't voting. Some people will blame the judges for not distinguishing amongst the remaining 9 contestants and just praising everyone. Some will blame the American public for assuming Pia was safe. Regardless, besides that Stefano guy who should have gone home 5 weeks ago, everyone left is incredibly talented and will have a great career ahead of them. It will all be shocking from here on out (except Stefano - have I mentioned that?).
