Why I Think Ben Ends Up Alone

We've got 20 minutes until tonight's episode. I sent The Husband off to our building's coop meeting as it's Bachelor Monday - and how can there be anything more important than preparing for this show?  Besides actually watching it and commenting on it, I guess.  Plus, I'm still protesting that our building thinks it's acceptable to hold a meeting on Bachelor Monday.  Don't they want to see the Emily vs. Courtney showdown in Park City?

Anyhow, on my commute home tonight, I got to thinking that all signs are pointing to Ben not ending up with anyone at the end of this season.  Here's why based on all of the known evidence.  This has nothing to do with spoilers or rumors:

(1) They already announced the Bachelorette for next season.  Now mind you, I'm not sure that they have ever picked a second girl from a Bachelor season to be The Bachelorette.  So it's quite unique that both Ashley and Emily get to be Bachelorette.  Some of you posted that you would rather see someone like Chantal O get a shot.  Well she might be more interesting, because she's certainly drop dead gorgeous and had a certain spunk about her, but she's engaged, so until we hear anything further -she's off the market.  And the fact that they picked Emily Maynard over any of the current girls from this season (or Shawntel, who they did kind of paint a sympathetic "Mean Girls" being bullied scenario for) leads me to believe that the last two girls in Ben's season were not sympathetic and perhaps not universally loved types.  The choice to give Emily Maynard another shot at love was a semi-reliable way to maintain an audience.  Let's face it.  Most guys and a lot of girls are pretty excited that Emily is the Bachelorette.  To the guys she's a smoking hot, beautiful woman.  To the ladies that like her, she's a sympathetic single mom who deserves love.   And while she may be deemed to be a bit on the tamer, sweeter side than her Bachelor colleagues, perhaps the guys that come to woo her will be a bit on the wild side.  Stick Michael Stagliano back in the pool.  From his Twitter account he has a huge crush on her.  So does just about every guy that's still single from the show.  So this is a long way of saying that the reason they chose to announce Emily as The Bachelorette now versus at the end of Ben's season, is they want to maintain people's interest in the show, which would only make sense to reveal it now IF Ben's ending is disappointing and he ends up alone.

(2) Ben has been out and about and Tweeting like a wild man.  Ben and Chris Harrison are doing this thing where they crash parties of Bachelor watching fans in the LA area.  That sounds like a lot of fun, but wouldn't Ben be so head over heels in love that he would be at home, watching the show while on Skype with his new fiance?  Or did the ending go so poorly that he can't bare to watch an episode?  The other interesting thing is that Ben just took a couple of days to go to Park City, Utah to see Sundance with some of the producers of the show, including Cassie Lambert.  I wonder what Bachelor related things he was doing there.  I saw him give an interview with Mario Lopez, but other than that, you have to wonder whether he was there to drum up interest in the show, mend a broken heart from a finale rejection or just watch some movies - though I have a heard time he'd be doing that for fun with the producers from The Bachelor out of his own free will.  They're nice and all, but I wonder what the real reason was.

(3) They haven't revealed to us whether Ben finds love.  I think in almost every other season of Bachelor, we are told at the beginning of the season what happens, in some form or another, at the end of the season.  Sometimes it's "I am in love."  In Brad's case it was "I'm engaged."  Some just say that they're happy.  All Ben says is that he learns a lot and it was a wild ride.  I'm not sure they're just being coy with us - I just don't see any love blooming here.

(4) Out of all the women this season, Ben seems the most smitten by Courtney.  While Emily, Kacie B, Nicki, Lindzi, Jamie, Rachel and Jennifer all seem great enough, I'm not sure Ben feels the same way about any of them like he does for Courtney.  Based on Courtney's Jekyll and Hyde behavior, I'm having a hard time deciphering whether she has a remote shred of interest in Ben or if she's playing the Bentley card.  Hmmm.

Perhaps tonight will change my mind?  I hope Ben understands the delicate balance between hot vs. psycho and how no matter how hot a woman is, the psycho part of the brain has to be a turn off at some point.  Will Ben get to see the inner psycho that these women have?  We shall see...

What do you think? Does Ben end up alone? In love?  I'm hoping for the latter, but not sure it's going to happen.
