American Idol Finale - HOLY Cow!

Did you guys see Idol's finale last night? I have to say - it was truly one of the most entertaining programs I have ever seen. I don't say that because of the actual contestants - because they were ok (and in some cases great), but the "wow" factor had to be the amount of A-List singers they kept dishing out one after the other.

Let's start with the ending. Is anybody else as shocked as I am that Kris Allen beat out Adam? I was actually a big Kris fan and was thrilled that he won, but Adam had that unique factor that no other contestant has come close to on the show. Comparing Adam and Kris is apples and oranges - they were just two completely different styles of musical artistry. Congratulations to both of them! They seem like such great people. I even enjoyed watching their families (normally the families of the Idol contestants bug me - like Carly's husband with his facial tattoos last season, but I LOVED Adam Lambert's mother who looks like a nice Jewish mom).

Some highlights from last night's show:

1. Was absolutely amazed by the duet between Alison I and Cyndi Lauper. That was crazy good and I might even try to download it on iTunes later.

2. Kris and Keith Urban's duet. I love Keith Urban - and I saw in an interview that Kris gave this morning that Keith was totally down to earth with him, saying "let's just go out there and have fun." I love watching the Idols with big celebs - especially when they perform together, because you can totally picture Kris Allen as a kid, playing his guitar in his bedroom, pretending he was part of a big performance - and there he is doing it for REAL.

3. Probably my favorite moment of the entire night was when that bikini girl contestant, Katrina, came out and Ryan says,"Well, I'd ask you what's new, but we already know." The girl got implants since we saw her at the auditions. Then bikini girl starts singing the song that Kara the judge said she "didn't have the chops for" at the auditions. Ten seconds into her song, Kara comes out on stage and totally outsings the crap out of bikini girl!! It was seriously awesome. Kara annoyed me the ENTIRE season, but after that move, I actually think I may like her. Then - the best moment of the whole night - Kara busts open her dress to reveal her own bikini and rock solid body!! Go Kara!!! That was the highlight of the whole season for me!

4. I thought Fergie looked kind of scary and we didn't get a very long version of "Big Girls Don't Cry," but then when the entire Black-Eyed Peas came out - their performance was incredible (and kind of creepy, but good).

5. Watching Adam Lambert on stage with Kiss was amazing. Especially their "I wanna rock n' roll all nighhhhht and party every day!!" I thought Adam would make an amazing addition to their band. In fact, he was almost better than them. The other members were still wearing their crazy face paint as Kiss always does and sticking out their crazy long tongues - but Adam blended in quite well with them. Maybe they need a new member.

6. Santana was incredible too and Matt Giraud (let's be honest - he's always wearing a hat just to hide that unfortunate wart on his forehead) sounded great with him. Santana is incredibly talented - and it's amazing how his songs are still very relevant today.

7. Can we talk about Steve Martin? How random was that? All of sudden we have an oil rigger and Meghan Joy on stage and there's Steve with a banjo type thing strummin' along. Then Meghan and Oil Rigger are singing their little yodel love song and you almost think Steve is going to do something comical with the look on his face. Then the song ends and we find out that Steve not only plays the banjo but WROTE the song they just sang - and has an album coming out. Who knew??? It was wonderful!

8. Queen Latifah and Lil' Rounds was ok - nothing too amazing, but I never found Lil's performances (except in the auditions) anything to write home about.

9. I thought it was really cool that Jason Mraz made an appearance - love his song "I'm Yours."

10. Danny Gokey was awesome, as usual - and it's great how he was singing a Lionel Richie song and all of a sudden - there's Lionel and he sings his old stuff. Later on we see Nicole Richie and her hubby are in the audience.

11. The night led up to the amazing moment of having both finalists sing with Queen to "We are the Champions!" - how appropriate!

12. Another favorite moment - watching Kris's wife give him a big embrace at the very end of the show. They've only been married for 9 months and for 8 of it he's been gone, so Kris is looking forward to married life. Must be tough to be away from your significant other for so long with the kind of time constraints the show puts on these people.

13. It was nice to see Tatianna and Fake Norman once again, but I'm glad to see them go as well.

14. Loved watching how crazy the hometowns get for the Idols - and seeing all the 12 and 13 year old girls scream always makes me laugh.

15. It was VERY nice to see Paula NOT looking like an Ooompa Loompa after Part 1 of the finale two nights ago.

16. It was also very nice that Lady GaGa was NOT part of this event since I have seen her perform on like every show for the past 2 weeks.

17. When they finally announced that Kris had won, it was interesting they didn't say it was close - only that there were over 100 million votes. This article below says that 38 million of those votes came from Arkansas.

Ok, I'm off to happy hour on this gorgeous Thursday night. Hope you all have a great night. Get set for the big weekend!
