The opening number with 3 professional couples is to "Should I Stay or Should I go." They are really trying to fill some time with 2 hours of a show and only 4 couples left. Only on this show, btw, could people get away with the outfits, hair and make-up all of the contestants are sporting. Otherwise, this could be a Halloween variety show spectacular of some sort.
Samantha Harris looks particularly tan tonight. Perhaps she joined in on the spray tanning festivities before the show. Also, Gilles looks especially gorgeous.
Melissa and Tony are up first. Melissa always looks so much better with no make-up and normal hair. They showed their foxtrot from last week for about 2 minutes straight. If only I wasn't taping Gossip Girl AND Dancing With the Stars - then I could also watch Game 6 of the Caps vs Penguins ice hockey playoff game. The Boyfriend is off biting his nails as we speak praying for his Caps.
Holy cow, they are STILL replaying last week's dances of Melissa. Wow, they are hard pressed for time fillers. Ok, looks like they are going to recap EACH couple's dances from the previous weeks. I'll come back in about an hour to see this week's dances.
Ok, back. Melissa and Tony are up first. For the second time tonight, we see recaps of last week's dances including a partial wardrobe malfunction in the boobage region.
This week, it looks like the two of them have worked hard for the Quick Step. Melissa is pretty light on her feet during this dance. Her black sequined gown with a white and black silk sails on the bottom is very elegant (and could only be worn on this show). Her hair and gown together kind of have the look of a 20's flapper girl. The most amazing part of their dance, was the end, when Tony drags her in a crazy circle on the floor and they end in a neat spin stop.
"Great musicality, I liked the phrasing of the music, your feet are much improved," says Len. Bruno was not blown away, and Carrie Ann agrees - she doesn't think Melissa was connected to it. For the semi finals, they wanted Melissa to step up her game. After last week's perfect score, I think Melissa might cry. Scores: 9, 10, 9 Not so bad. From the comments, you'd think they would have scored lower.
Gilles and Cheryl are up next, dancing the Waltz. Cheryl looks like a big white swan. An elegant swan, but the dress is kind of not in line with the flattering, sexy outfits she is usually wearing. They are dancing to Norah Jones's "Come Away With Me," which is an interesting choice. Gilles looks amazing as usual, but he could wear a garbage bag and look amazing. Let's see if they throw any crazy moves in. So far, it's pretty traditional. It's very swan/bird like.
Bruno is on his feet screaming his praise for them. He calls them "irresistibly romantic." "Subtle, sweet, perfect," says Carrie Ann. Len says, "I'm giving you a sitting standing ovation." That's pretty nice. Looks like Gilles got choked up. A man as strong as Gilles who can tear up from being overwhelmed at the results he achieved in a reality dance competition, is pretty hot. Scores: 10, 10, 10 - perfect!
We are up to Shawn and Mark with the Argentine Tango. I love how they show Shawn struggling in practice and then her actual performance is like light years away from their rehearsal - it's always so technically precise. "You delivered!" says Carrie Ann. Passion - so connected... "Most fantastic semi final" - "maturity I wasn't expecting" "it was honestly, without a doubt for me, (Shawn's) best performance" says Len.
"What we have here is Catherine Zeta SHAWN!" says Bruno. "You've got it coming." Shawn is wearing a black lace short skirted dress, which is a definitely improvement over some of her other outfits, but I still think she should be covering up more. I loved her performance tonight.
Mark is wearing guy liner. Kind of odd, but ok.
Scores: 10, 10, and 10 - another perfect score - their first time getting perfect scores. Shawn must love that, being an Olympic gymnast.
Last up of the 4 couples is Ty and Chelsie. He takes Chelsie to ride a bull, but to his surprise, she doesn't really fall off. They are practicing for the Rumba. But start with the Viennese Waltz. Chelsie is wearing a cross between a prom queen and Turquoise Barbie dress. Ty looks best in a tux, because it's an elegant wardrobe for a guy that definitely is not comfortable on the dance floor. Though he gives it his all each week and that's why people vote for him. He basically almost drops her leg at one point, but they are still very cute. Let's face it - at this point, nobody is expecting miracles from them, they just don't want Ty to drop Chelsie on her head.
Len says, "You have worked so hard...overall, I thought it was fabulous."
Bruno says, "He nearly dropped her!" Bruno compares Ty to Gilles and says there is no comparison.
Carrie Ann - "Ty what I love about you is how you get this whole room generating support for you." Carrie recognizes that he wobbles and it was not his best performance. In the background while Ty is waiting for his scores, you see Gilles, muscle purple sequined shirt. Kind of ridiculous
Scores: 8, 9 and 8.
We get to see a little history of each of the contestants.
Melissa's parents talk about how Melissa works really hard. Her mom looks just like her and is really attractive. I love that her parents would not be caught dead on The Bachelor, but they give a full on interview about Melissa on this show. Then we see Melissa at Cowboy Cheerleader's auditions. We even get a quick peek into her rejection on the Bachelor. Haven't seen that in a couple of weeks, almost forgot how awful it was!
Ok, Melissa is up again - for the Cha Cha. Her outfit is very sparkly and distracting. Both of them are wearing these banded top hats. They look cute. Much better than outfit number 1. Wow, they did an amazing turn - like a 180 push of Melissa into a straight line. And she's smiling the whole time. Amazing job!!!
Bruno, "Melissa, can I tell you one thing. I like my cha-cha full thrust and full on and in this routine at moments you were sensational but at times you don't sustain the energy." He wants her to maintain that level.
Carrie Ann - says the emotion and connection was there to the music.
Len - said "He liked it, but not as much as he was hoping to." Scores: Straight 9s.
HOLY COW - there is an amazingly long Bachelorette promo of the entire season and smartly, there is no scene of the final rose ceremony. Good job, ABC - you finally caught a clue that there are people who dissect every single frame of these promos and could probably tell you who every single final guy was. Thanks for not telling us who won before the show starts. Appreciate that! Jillian sees herself as "the cute" girl, not so much the hot girl. Looks like she had a lot of fun filming this show. Hopefully the boys will love her and she'll find someone normal.
Gilles is next. We see his history - where he grew up in Cannes, France. His father had a bakery and he worked there day and night - that's where he learned his strong work ethic. He tried to make it as a model, and wasn't doing so well. Anyhow - bet he won't have problems getting modeling work after this show. Cheryl and him are up with the Samba. They are a glittery purple delight. At one point the camera zooms in on their butts. Nice work.
Carrie Ann is giving - "That is Gilles Marini at his best."
Len says, "I wish I had an 11 paddle." Wow, that's really nice
"You deserve to be in the final," says Bruno.
Amazing - those must be the nicest comments any couple has ever gotten on the show. Perfect 10s for Gilles. He's crying.
Shawn's childhood story kicks everyone else's butt. Walking before 9 months? Gymnastics and Dance at the Olympics level? Unreal.
Shawn and Mark are incredible together in their 60s wardrobe - black and white large polka dots. Again, Shawn is appropriately dressed this time - minus the crazy pig tails with pink bows. I don't know how these women compete in heels, just don't understand it.
Len wanted to see a little bit more traditional jive. Bruno and Carrie Ann also were not as excited like their first performance. Shoot: only a 26 total for Shawn. Come on people, vote for her!
Ty and Chelsie are very fun to watch as always. I like her pretty sparkly pink dress. Their samba is moderately bashed by the judges. They all adore him, but he's just not at the same level as the remaining three. "Murray in a hurry," says Len. Len compliments Chelsie's efforts with Ty and the camera pans to Jewel, who does not look that happy that her husband is spending a ton of time with an adorable, talented dancer like Chelsie. Don't worry, Jewel, this may be it for Ty even though I like him very much.
Scores: 8, 7, 8.
Stay tuned tomorrow for the results!!!
