Five Reasons Why This Season May Not Suck...

Now that my boss is back from maternity leave, I am counting down to a much needed vacation.  A week from today, I will hopefully be on a beach, far far away from meetings, schedules and deadlines.  It is going to take some convincing to return.

The majority of you out there do not seem too excited about Brad Womack being the next Bachelor. I get it.  He's had his run, he picked nobody, and he didn't particularly seem that enthralling to watch the first time around.  But here's a couple of things to look forward to this season even if Brad is not your cup of tea:

1. He's 37 years old, which would hopefully mean he really could be ready to settle down.  This might hopefully mean that the ladies vying for him may be on the older side (young 30 somethings and late 20 somethings versus 22 and 23 year olds).   My guess is we may have multiple single moms and a plethora of divorcees. Throw those in with the wannabe models and actresses and there should be some interesting chemistry in the house.

2. Brad has experience as a Bachelor, so it will be interesting to see whether he changes the rules at all or behaves differently as he has the benefit of hindsight.  This is the first repeat Bachelor in Bachelor history - there have been repeated contestants who come back seeking the Bachelor, but never the Bachelor himself.  Remember Mary from Byron's season as the older professional bass fisherman?  Mary was on a prior season of The Bachelor, but got the boot.  She came back to pursue Byron and claimed she knew how to play the game much better the second time around. Clearly she did - she got the final rose that season.  She also got arrested two times since the finale, but that's besides the point.

3. Since Ali's season took everyone around the world, there should be some pretty "amazing" dates as the locations can sometimes be far more interesting than the contestants.  If you are looking to do some vacation planning, think of the Bachelor as a travel show versus a reality dating show.

4.  What else is there to do on freezing cold Monday nights in January?

5.  ABC is under pressure to make this season just as outstanding as last season.  Ali's happy ending with Roberto was a very satisfying conclusion, despite our love for Chris L, and made better by the fact that they are still together.  If there is a way to make this season as satisfying as last season, ABC will find a way to do it.  And if not, they will create absurd scenarios for ratings such as allowing couples to submit for an opportunity to get engaged during an episode of the Bachelor.  Ok, we may be in trouble.

Happy almost Friday, Bachelor fans.  Are any of you traveling or going away before the New Year starts?  Let's hear it...
