I hope you all enjoyed your holidays and are enjoying some well deserved down time. Our trip was incredible - minus two crazy incidents. The first - during a trip to El Yunque, the rainforest in Puerto Rico, The Husband and I hiked down to La Mina Falls, a beautiful waterfall. While using some rocks for leverage while swimming in the waterfalls, The Husband's wedding ring went flying off into the water, never to be seen again. It was very sad. He attempted to try and find it for a while, but it was a lost cause. He claims that if he had some goggles, he could have found it, but we were on a group tour, and there really was not much time for searching. So if any of you are in La Mina Falls in El Yunque in Puerto Rico and happen to come across a men's wedding ring, let us know!
The second crazy thing that happened: on Christmas Eve, my family and I were out to dinner at a Chinese restaurant at a hotel across from where we were staying. While passing around lo mein and spare ribs, the table and floor started rumbling. It felt like we were directly above a subway train. The shaking didn't last more than a few seconds, but it was terrifying. Turns out San Juan was experiencing an earthquake. My very first one! We continued to eat as if nothing had happened, and it was only later that we thought about how dangerous of a situation we could have been in - eating with 10 stories of a hotel over our heads!! We were very lucky.
Speaking of lucky, I guess we were lucky that we came back yesterday instead of today, because otherwise we would have been stuck in Puerto Rico for another few days. That would have been just awful :)
On the upside, we discovered my new favorite restaurant in the whole world. In Fajardo, PR, we rented a car and drove 20 seconds outside our hotel to "La Estacion," which served the best mofongo I have ever tasted in my life. I am still dreaming about my skirt steak mofongo dish. If you are ever in Fajardo, you MUST check it out!! http://www.laestacionpr.com/home.shtml
Ok, it's back to work tomorrow, so I must go mentally prepare.
