American Idol: Who Will Go Tonight?

Did anybody else check out Idol last night? Now that we're down to the final 11 - tonight's elimination will solidify the 10 performers who will join the Idol tour after the show. Last summer, I dragged The Boyfriend to Atlantic City, NJ to attend one of these concerts. Among shrilling 13 year olds who came in packs and made all sorts of insane high pitched noises when the name David Archuleta was mentioned - we sat in the way back bleacher seats and watched each Idol perform. It was kind of a strange format. Each singer came on sang 3 songs, then left. I think there was maybe 1 or 2 group songs, but otherwise it was like watching a solo concert times 10.

Atlantic City was pretty hectic that weekend. For starters we took that horrendous bus from Port Authority that is super cheap and super disgusting. On the way home, we waited over 2 hours for a bus to pick us up at the hotel. We then decided to go directly the bus terminal where we waited another 2 hours. It was so hot outside and people were getting really angry. A woman three from me collapsed into her husband's arms and had a seizure right there in the parking lot. During that time, people from the back of the bus line attempting to take advantage of the commotion, tried to cut to the front of the line to secure their spot on the next bus. The people in the front rebelled. Complete chaos was an understatement. It's amazing we got out of there alive.

Anyhow, last night's American Idol was very entertaining. I happen to be one of the only people from New York, living in New York City that absolutely loves country music. So the fact that it was Country Night, was very exciting to me. The Boyfriend was not nearly as excited as me. Highlights of the night:

  • I always love Red Hair Allison. She's consistently entertaining. Simon called her precocious. Come on, she's 16 and amazing.
  • 'Noop Dog. Who knew he could do country? He was definitely a front runner. I would pay money to see him get up on Rap night (is there a rap night?) and sing "'Noop Doggin' Ohhh Wooo Ohhh Ohhh."
  • Watching Alexis Grace get beat up by judges a bit. Alexis is obviously talented, but I think her head got a little big over the last couple of weeks - especially since she was one of the first three picked to go into the final 12. She got to sit comfortably as her competition had to fight it out for the last spots. Maybe a little too comfortably. On a side note, I'd like to dip the other half of her hair in magenta paint.
  • Adam Lambert's vampire looks and Ring of Fire rendition were absolutely frightening, but definitely unique.
  • I liked Kris Allen's sweet singing.
  • The two Carrie Underwood song performances were pretty good. Jesus Take the Wheel is an amazing, amazing song and I thought Danny did a great job but that white puffy coat was ridiculous. I think he was going for a religious look and I didn't like it. He's another one whose ego has sky rocketed and I think he has a VERY similar voice to David Cook from last year.
  • Matt Giraud was the final performer and really seemed to clean up last night. He's an incredible piano player and seems to be compared to a lot of different musicians - which suggests he has a wide range of abilities (as discussed by the judges last night).
  • Lil Rounds looked like she was wearing a magenta towel, but that girl can sing.
  • Poor Megan was very sick - and there was definitely something odd stuff in her boobage area. She is drop dead gorgeous and if the singing thing doesn't work out, she could definitely model.
  • How crazy is her arm tatoo?
  • I find myself cheering for Scott MacIntyre, but I agree that his vocals were not up to par. It could be him or the oil rig guy's time to go.
  • The Boyfriend goes nuts any time Kara the Judge says anything. He can't stand her. He hopes that somebody makes fun of her on Saturday Night Live. I wonder if her and Paula get along behind closed doors. It's a bit much with 4 judges this year.
