Dancing With the Stars: Recap

I watched half the show running on the treadmill this evening and the other half on the DVR afterwards. During Gilles's dance, I caught my male 20 something treadmill neighbor peeking over at my screen. He was as entranced as I was.

Tonight's show was pretty good. It's becoming a common theme that each of the professional dancers does something a little out of the norm for their "star" partner. For example, Derek the blonde ballerina (I feel like he could easily convert into a professional ice skater for the Czech team), took Lil Kim to a 50s diner to try to show her the jive. Actually - I think this duo got the highest marks this week. For once, I thought they were actually great. Lil Kim is like a shrunken Janet Jackson and her face has had so much plastic surgery that it's tough for her to show expression, but she definitely has some moves. Little moves for Lil Kim. I thought it was funny that they danced to Jailhouse Rock considering that she's an ex jailbird. She even got dressed up like a prisoner while Derek was supposed to be a cop of some sort. Or maybe it was the other way around. Either way, if I spent time in jail, the last thing I'd want was to perform a dance about it on national television.

Ty and Chelsea looked a little lost. Ty was a little bit behind Chelsea and seemed out of his element. Same with Steve-O. I agree that he has more passion with his dog than with Lacey.

Lawrence Taylor and Edyta were hot. I loved his dance moves and although I find her very distracting (bright pink leg warmers and a flashy outfit that shows EVERYTHING??!!) I thought that Lawrence showed remarkable improvement.

How cute that Mark created a prom for Shawn since she will be most likely be missing her prom this year. I thought Shawn looked beautiful tonight. It was the first time she looked "hot" as opposed to cute. And I like that they don't go crazy with their dance moves - they accentuate what they have and make it elegant. And the fake kisses are still a little strange, especially because of their age difference, but I still love these two.

Chuck and Julianne are really trying to sell themselves as a package deal - they've got the real life romance thing and are milking it. Who wouldn't fall in love all over again in Santa Monica. Who wouldn't love a hot Chuck admitting in front of millions of viewers that he loves Julianne and it's important for him to reflect that in his dancing? And he's gorgeous! If they don't make it to the end of the show, and let's face it, if we're judging on their dancing, it's not going to happen, maybe they can host a reality country music tour show or just doing the laundry. It wouldn't matter. Both are so easy to look at, it's mesmerizing.

Melissa got some criticism tonight on being too ballerina-ish. I felt bad for her - she obviously had higher hopes of getting better scores. At least her body is rock solid - looked like most of the girls were wearing sparkly bikinis as their dance outfits tonight. This definitely verged on mildly inappropriate, but at least it somewhat distracted us from the dancing.

Gilles was amazing, but Gilles is always amazing. I love when the judges try to come up with ways of criticizing him, when he's just as good as most of the professional dancers on the show. Tonight's criticism was that there's too much hyper activity going on. But that's what makes him so exciting. You never what trick he's going to pull out of his sleeve. He's a pleasure to watch. And now that the Sex and the City movie is on HBO on Demand this month, he's a pleasure to watch as Samantha's neighbor all over again :)
