With two people getting the boot this week, the Idol contestants are under a lot of pressure. Last night's theme was "70's disco" and thankfully, all 4 judges commented on each performance instead of only two, like last week.
First off was Lil' Rounds who did a shaky Shaka Khan performance. She always looks like she's about to burst into tears when the judges criticize her. I don't know about her. In the earlier rounds, I thought she was incredible and was really rooting for her, but she is not at the same level as the other contestants and really hasn't been able to up her game when she needs it most. I think there is a 180% chance she is going home tonight.
Next was Kris Allen, which I have to say, I think was the best performance of the night. His "She Works Hard for the Money" was so incredibly original, heartfelt, and just plain cool. I loved the Santana spin he put on it. Paula's comments about his performance were kind of awkward, but hilarious at the same time. I love watching Simon's reaction to Paula's comments more than her comments themselves. Go Kris!!
Danny Gokey's song was probably good enough to get him through (he sang "September"), but I didn't think it was anything that incredibly different. He also was starting to sound like a great lead singer of a wedding band. Paula said he has "one of the sexiest voices," and I'm not sure if that's just strange coming from Paula or complimentary, but he still is not one of my favorites.
Matt Giraud's performance was kind of weak. I don't think he's done enough to get himself out of the bottom two. He loves the falsetto thing and trying to confuse people into thinking that he's Justin Timberlake - and while I think he's definitely talented, not sure he was going at full speed last night.
Still love Allison I, her songs are starting to sound all alike, but she's still wonderful. I'm rooting for her simply because she is the only female left with a prayer of making it to the finals.
Adam Lambert was great, as always. I liked that he slowed things down a bit. His scream singing thing is just like Kiss, and it's weird, but kind of cool tool.
Then there was Anoop dog in his pink v-neck sweater - I liked it. He was actually really good - showed off his vocals last night, but he doesn't seem to be a crowd favorite. So I'm worried about him.
Here's my vote from top to bottom:
1. Kris Allen
2. Adam Lambert
3. Allison I
4. Danny Gokey
5. Anoop
6. Matt G
7. Lil' Rounds
We'll see tonight.
