The Hills: Not as Bad as You'd Think

With Good Friday off from work, I've had some great time to catch up on the shows I've wanted to watch all week. The Hills on MTV is back, after a couple of months off, and I have to say - it did not disappoint. For all of you who have saved your brain cells in not watching this show, The Hills is a semi reality show which follows the live of Lauren Conrad ("LC"). Originally from Laguna Beach, California, LC is a beautiful, blonde fashion student that has moved to Hollywood Hills to pursue her dream of being in the fashion world. She moved in with her best friend Heidi Montag and got a coveted position as an intern at Teen Vogue. At Teen Vogue she befriended her co-intern, Whitney Port (who now has her own show, The City). Living in LC and Heidi's apartment complex was Audrina Patridge - the beautiful, yet ditzy, alternative wanna be who hangs out with a Loser named Justin Bobby. After the first couple of seasons of The Hills, Heidi starts dating the villain of villains, Spencer Pratt. He's like the blonde frat boy you love to hate in every college movie. Despite the hundreds of horrible things that Pratt says, does and is, Heidi loves him unconditionally and eventually loses Lauren's friendship. Heidi moves in with Spencer. Last season, Speidi, as the pair is often referred to as, who have no other friends, went off to Mexico where they decided to elope. Upon their return to the US, they ultimately decided not to legitimize the marriage. Everyone hates Spencer. Heidi's mom, Heidi's sister, Heidi's ex best friend, etc. - they all want him out of her life. Heidi prays a lot, reads the bible daily and can't see that the guy she lives with is the biggest horse's ass in reality show history.

Fast forward to Monday's season premiere of The Hills: it's LC's birthday and her current best friends, Lo and Audrina throw a surprise birthday party on a yacht. Despite hating Spencer more than anyone in the world, LC is still friends with her brother, Stephanie. Steph mentions to Heidi the plans for LC's birthday, and Heidi decides to join, uninvited. As Heidi joins the ship of fools, Spencer goes off with a guy and hits on a flimsy, hot bartender named Stacie. Meanwhile, Steph's ex boyfriend Cameron just happens to be at the same bar, watches Spencer flirting with Stacie, and texts Steph this 411 while she's at LC's party. Steph tells Heidi the news, Heidi freaks out and contacts her devil fiance. Spencer finds out who the source of the info was, and punches Cameron in the face at the bar, breaking blood. LC, feeling bad for Heidi, talks to her about it, tells Heidi that Spencer is "an asshole" and then the two cry and hug.

Heidi goes and confronts the skanky bartender, who plays innocent and understanding confidant (she later tells Spencer that his girlfriend is pscyho). She then confronts Spencer with the information, and decides to ship off to her hometown of Crested Butte, Colorado "to think." Heidi's mother, Darlene, is the most interesting character on the show these days. She clearly loves her daughter, hates Spencer and has absolutely no idea how to handle this situation. She takes Heidi out for dinner and invites one of her former beaus, Colby. It was actually funny how awkward it was for Heidi, especially as her mother laid it on thick. "Isn't Colby cute? You guys would make such a cute couple. Maybe things happen for a reason." Colby was cute, and if Heidi was not brainwashed or had a half an ounce of self worth, she would end it with Spencer, the guy who punches guys at bars, hits on bartenders when he's supposed to be engaged, telling them that "Well we got married in Mexico, so it doesn't count." Is that really the type of person she wants to end up with? I don't think so.

Meanwhile, while Heidi is away, Spencer meets up with former best friend Brody Jenner. Brody gives him horrible advice - that Spencer should be angry with Heidi for believing a total stranger over him (hello, it was all captured on video, there's no debate as to who to believe), and that he should be out playing the field, not settled down with one chick. Yeah, except if you're "engaged" to that person, Brody. Of course Spencer agrees with him, and goes back to the same bar to flirt with Stacie. The episode ends with them deciding what to do upon the end of the night. It seems that Stacie may actually go home with this jerk. Meanwhile, Heidi admits to her mother that she is happy they didn't actually get married yet. So are we, Heidi!!

BTW, if you are on twitter.com - Heidi Montag's tweets are most shout outs to Jesus and bible quotes. I had no idea she was so religious.

Next week should be interesting - Spencer calls LC and apologizes to her. I wonder what go into him. Happy Easter!!
